Anyone heard anything interesting coming up from Frankfurt?

All I've heard is the SSL stuff which, I'm sure, will sneak out shortly and Audient's Zen Console which looks very interesting.

I'm meeting the guys from Apogee next week but don't know at this stage if they have anything new.

What about Melodyne? I seem to remember predicting we wouldn't see that anytime soon ... wasn't it supposed to be out by last October?

Given that the developer(s) is European and a tad eccentric I'd say they just held off from NAMM, I have it on good faith that its fairly ready for release - some indie 3rd party developer nearly pre-empted them... can't for the life of me think what it was though...

Well their own plans since Frankfurt 2008 were to have the first DNA product out for Spring 2009 - Melodyne editor - as up on their site. Forum buzz suggests that Frankfurt will be the unveiling of this.

In terms of the indie alternatives,

VisualVox Professional (Mac only VST - 25 Euro; bit buggy)

Only one way to find out in fairness I do no vocal work whatsoever, and my experience with resynthesis usually ended up sounding like a badly timestretched/pitchshifted mess. I'll have a look a serious look at Melodyne w/DNA when it comes out given their pedigree, until then I've far too much on my plate to be messing around with. That said, the algorhythmns (sp?) behind the magic aren't anything new so I'd expect a lot of imitators; I wouldn't be suprised if Cycling '74 or someone similarly funky end up incorporating elements of this into their own software.

just installed and tested today and its bloody good! the buss comp is much better than waves, still has that ssl bite but runs a lot smoother and leaves the stereo image more intact at harder settings.

im not hearing any major improvement in the channel strip. its slightly differant in tone but i wouldnt say better or worse.. not that the waves channel needed much improvement anyway.

They've got Manley on board now too, I imagine the Vari-Mu is definitely on the cards and maybe the Massive Passive...
