    Following on from talk of helmets and safety I started looking for body armour for next season and came across very little in the way of value. I did come across this site though;

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Categories.aspx?CategoryID=221

    and in particular this item for cos its very cheap, and I'm a tight git! ;

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=7088

    It looks a bit chunky, but so did most of what I was looking at.

    Seems pretty good value on unknown brands and especially the base layers plus delivery is free on everything apparently. Anyone ever used it before or have recommendations for somewhere else to go? Was looking at the full upper body kit in 53 north recently and nearly got sick when I saw the price!

    (Before anyone asks, I don't have any association to this site, just thought it was quite cheap, could be wrong :D)

    That stuff your looking is too bulky and suited to motorcycle drivers, you need something with more freedom of movement that protects your spine and coccyx(tailbone) as they are the most vunerable.

    This is similar to what i have:

    I personally think that body arm is of use if your doing knarly rock drops rideing stuff that could potentiolay break you back......
    I dont see why people wear it when piste rideing usueally the falls you get are from catching an edge getting air of a mogul and landing badly....
    your carrying some momentum so your fall dosent hurt that much....

    TBH I wasn't really impressed with on piste for my first trip on a snowboard, apart from the snowpark, but the off piste stuff really appealed to me, which is why I'm looking at body armour.

    I held back a little bit, as it was my first real experience off-piste, but with the right protection I'd feel alot more confident. (Within reason mind)

    ShayK1, i'd love to buy irish but the selection isn't great on that site, and the body armour on offer doesn't look as protective, bu looks as bulky as what I've found. I've absolutely no experience with the stuff though so could be wrong.

    If your planing on getting into of piste rideing your first investment should be a shovel, probe and avi. not a bloody back protector :rolleyes:

    What kind of money are we talking for a full kit then? And where is the best place to look?

    I use one of these now

    http://www.backcountry.com/store/MAM0047/Mammut-Pulse-Barryvox-Avalanche-Beacon.html
    Probably the best on the market i buaght it last year, used it all season amazing peaces of kit worth the investment If your rideing off piste 4 days a week for 5 months a year how ever if your going snow boarding 2 weeks of the year type thing

    http://www.backcountry.com/store/ORT0012/Ortovox-F1-Focus-Avalanche-Beacon.html
    One of these is more then adaquit Ive found, I used one of them before my Mammut... its another exelant peace of kit bit different to use but just as good...

    probes http://www.backcountry.com/store/group/85/Probes.html
    take your pick there :) its mkaes and different feature snow shovels are the same mate.,...

    get your self a dakine heli back pro to :)

    But i would advise if your going out with friends and your all doing that all get them an avi wont save one person in a group you all gotta wear them...... More importantly know how to use them to you can do course's in most resort's..... But even go to a plowed up feild with a friend put the avi in plastic bag and get you mate to hide it. then Turn it on to serch and serch for it good way of keeping skills freash...

    Also read about snow condition's and how snow is dangerous etc i mean 9 times out of 10 you wont need to use it but that one time could save you your friends or all of you ya know what i mean? saftey first :), and OF course forget the turns and flat line it :)

    Thats the way i feel about things its all well and good haveing back protectors but a back protector wont get you out of 5 foot deep avi....:(..

    Its all down to can you justfy the perpose of buying one etc.. Im not saying dont go of piste with out wone because some days you can im just saying its worth noting the risks :)

    As snowmonkey says backcountry kit is no use unless you get training on how to use it and some avalanche awareness training
    I use this transceiver
    Its very easy to use. A guide I use a good bit swears by the ortovox one linked above just beacuse of its simplicity.

    I have the same body armour and crash pants. Both are comfortable and there's plenty of padding.

    The body armour has hard protective pads in the shoulders and elbows. There's 3 protective plates along the spine. There's soft pads there for kidney and collar bone protection.

    I bought body armour from irishsnowboards.com and got a deal from the listed prices.well worth it.i got the jacket and padded pants and they provide excellent protection.
    Had a naty fall on a rail in meribal and would have done some damage to the tailbone (ass) if it wasnt for the padded bottoms.Also got great protection from teh jacket by falling a few times ,didnt feel a thing.Also gives you added confidence as you can try tricks and not injure yourself as occured on previous holidays...No postage or delays as i drove out there and had them that day...defo worth a look
