Thinking of applying for this. Would anyone know what the salary would be? Or what a company secretary would generally get?

I don't know specifically however grad entry salaries tend to be in the same ballparks......

As for salaries when qualified, and future career paths. If you take this route you either stay in practice in an accountancy firm as a career, or in a larger firm you'd be company secretary (but there aren't many roles like that in Ireland). Most companies here get the CFO to be company sec as well (and then he gets an accountancy firm to do the company sec work).

So, if you decide you want to do this, it is quite specialised and if you wanted to do other things in the future you'd have to probably do another qualification.

The common way to get the company sec qualifications are to do an accountancy qual first and then the company sec exams..............

However, once qualified, you'd have pretty good earning potential with some solid experience under your belt........

(I'm ACCA qualified with about 20 years experience by the way)

From the information I've got, a trainee Company Secretary in a Big 4 will earn less than a trainee accountant in the same firm. I remember asking someone at KPMG about it around a year ago and it was circa 21k starting back then- which is, well, ****.

However, you do get a Masters paid for you and I'd be confident (although I don't know) that after a few years the salary would rise steeply. From looking at jobsites a CS with 3-4 years PQE seems to be on about 35-45...which ain't bad.

Think there's only 2/3 places at KPMG and I'll bet they're getting well near a thousand applicants!

    Good luck!

Anyone hear anything about their application yet?

    Well now...

I'm a trainee Company Secretary working in Fund Administration - basically doing all the Company Secretarial work for offshore hedge funds.

I started a year ago on 28k per year, went up 5% after 6 months but down 10% from that a couple weeks back.

The company I'm working for pay for my lectures and exams to become a chartered secretary. You're talking €1,000 per exam, and if you've a semi related degree (i.e. Law / Business Studies) you've only to do 4 exams.

Overall I like the work, but this will change depending on what company you're working for and who you're working with, but it's relatively stress free and actually quite varied.

I get to deal with a load of very interesting people, rather than members of the general public who, to be frank, are w@nkers!

Any questions you might have, please ask, cos i did a lot of research into the work before starting last year.

Hey I went for interviews in KPMG for there company law advisory services grad programme (includes payment of company sec exams too). Think the interview went well, and I have a bit of prior experience so fingers crossed, with the easter break they said we would find out next week.

Anyone any info on salary/prospects for after the grad programme/general advise on doing well if I get it!

    Cheers

    HI everybody!
I know this is a really old thread, but theres not much info out there on the company secretary graduate programme at KPMG so Im getting desperate! :)
I have an interview with KPMG on the 23rd of this month and Iwas wondering if anyone could give me soma advice on how to prepare.
    1. Were you asked to do a business exercise? All Ive been told is that there will be two competency based interviews.
    2. How in-depth should your knowledge of the position as company secretary be??
    3. Were you asked any tricky questions?
    4. Do I need to know about current commercial issues in Ireland? As a law graduate Im scared that my lack of business knowledge willl let me down.
    5. Ive been told that I should really "know" my application form. What does this mean in practice??!
Thank you so much for any help you can give me, much appreciated.

Sorry to drag this thread back up again but I cant seem to find any newer ones. I am thinking for applying for the KMPG graduate corporate secretary this year and just wondering can anyone give me some more info on the role? :)
In May I will have a degree in Business, have done some employment law but thats about it. Not sure what kind of job I want or should apply to :-/ Will this role be difficult without a law background? Also what will the after work hours be like for lectures etc?

    Any info really would help!!

    Thanks :)
