dslr substitute

I want to buy the best NON-DSLR available yet it must be as near to dslr quality as possible - could'nt be bothered with all those add-ons - too long in the tooth now. Have considered the Canon G10 but fear there may be better around. Have the Panasonic TZ3 at present - great little compact but with drawbacks. Any suggestions/ideas? Lecia V-Lux 1 is nice enough and expensive enough too
The Sony DSC-HX1 looks good too

hard to tell which is the best! what do you want from it?
Like is it good zoom, or wide angle, good low light handling - you need to specify the features that are most desireable.

I picked up the G10 a few months back, was a bit disappointed that it didn’t come with the time-lapse mode, but once i got over that it’s a great little camera. Size wise and build quality are great. Nice wide lens too. It’s a nice replacement for when you don’t want to luge around a dslr or just popping out. It doesn’t draw attention due to the size, allowing you to get on with your photography until your hearts content.
The battery life is outstanding - Put in an 8 gig card and take it away for the weekend.
Never really used the software that came with it and cant comment on any of the other camera in it’s league.

If I were in the market, I would definitely have a look at the Panasonic DMC-LX3, going by Dpreviews review of it. They make comparisons with the Canon G10 and Nikon P6000 and it fares well:
