Buying a car in the USA

    Sorry if this question has being answered before but I couldn't find an answer by searching.

    As car hire is prohibitively expensive for us at under 25 for 2 months we are looking into buying a car.

    My main question is about the licence, insurance, tax issues of it. Buying the car is obvious enough - once you're careful.

    How do you get insurance with a full Irish licence - is it possible?

    Can you own a car in America without an American licence?

    How do licence plates / road tax etc work?

    Any other issues I need to worry about?
