Sound recorder picking up static?

Hey the last while I was using audacity for recording sounds etc as i was putting them into a game. Lately now ive noticed that whenever im trying to record a sound theres a lot of noise/static on the recording. Ive tried the default recorder with the laptop and also the recorder thing on msn and they are all picking up…
