3V card on Paypal - crap

That thing is really pissing me off.
I buy a 70 euro voucher today to pay for a good online to a paypal account.
So I buy this thing online and when it comes to pay it says transaction declined, not enough funds.
Ok I am checking my 3V balance, I am now short 1 USD taken by Paypal, so I can't even buy my stuff anymore.

Why is that Paypal takes 1 USD verification/transaction fee before I even buy my good. When I pay using my real Visa card to Paypal addresses I have certainly no extra fee to pay.

I called Paypal and 3V they keep telling me this is not their fault, Paypal tells me to call 3V and 3V tells me to call Paypal.

I mean WTF? What kind of joke is that?

I think you get that euro back within 7 working days... It's just to test the card actually works.

That is a non sense since there is no need to take money out to see if a payment card works, from a banking point of view you simply ask the bank if there is enough money on the card for x amount.

Now Paypal will refund me, but this 1 USD fee is lost anyway, since if I want to get the money back on my bank account or another voucher, I have to pay 2.5 euro. I ain't ginna pay 2,5 euro to get 0.67 cents refunded. Ridiculous.

So thanks for the rip off

It will go back to the 3V voucher that it was taken from. There's no need to transfer it anywhere, unless the voucher expires, which it shouldn't for several months.

Why would anyone use 3V if they have a real credit card though? 3V offers absolutely nothing, no protection, no flexability, over a real credit card.

A voucher can only be used once. And is certainly not available for several months. It is 2 months max.
So even with Paypal refunding 1 USD in a week, after some time 3V will take the remaining credit on my account. I have noticed they do that recently, if I have 2-3 euros left on a voucher, they simply take them. The fees are taken while topping up only, so that is double time pissing me off. They leave no trace in the account history.

Now yes I am gonna give those thiefs a call on Monday.

Now of course using a one time visa card has several advantages in terms of security. Too much of our personal data are stored abroad with no law protection and people selling our information on the web. Plenty of very recent examples out there.

    From 3V's help page :
How long will my 3V Voucher last?
The expiry date for every 3V Voucher is set randomly for security reasons. 3V Vouchers are active for more than eight weeks and less than three months from the date of purchase. You can redeem the remaining funds on a 3V Voucher at any time by completing the online redemption form.

    It's 3 months max, not 2.

A 3V voucher can be used more than once, until all it's credit is used, or it expires. Once it expires, you can request the remaining credit be refunded, but there's a fee. If the remaining credit is less than the fee, then there would be no point in refunding it, so you forfeit it. It's one of the many reasons not to use 3V.

Using 3V will not stop any company from keeping your personal data. You supply the same name and address details when buying with 3V as you would when using a real credit card. Using 3V does not make you anonymous, unless you lied on the application form, and you would never receive your purchases if you gave a false address.

3V does not protect you, in any way, shape or form.

Its done in Paypals favour, all those $1's they take from people are sitting in the bank accounts of paypal for a small lenght of time and paypal make interest on them. $1 may not sound like much to make interest on but when they are taking it from millions of people everyday, then its a huge amount and profit from interest is then quite large.

Paypal are the ones charging you the 1USD so of course it's their fault and has nothing to do with 3V. In fact, have you used 3V to purchase other items online without paypal?

3v user myself, yes it is bit of a scam,i find it annoying most is you cant buy things in €5 segments,i.e if something is €20 on ebay, you would really have to buy €30 because you have to take €1.50 from the credit to secure it with paypal, paypal do return the €1.50 within 24 hours, only way to avoid the €1.50 security thing is to try buy the product on amazon/play

I have had the same problems with 3V. their costumer support is also very rude and unhelpful. Unlike Paypal who did not no what had happened but tried their best to help me out. 3V would give one sentence replies and no help on how to solve my problem. I will neve use 3V again. They are a rip off. I hope people will catch on to this and stop using them aswell and put them out of business!!!

Firstly, Paypal will and do always pass the book, so of course they will tell you they dont know whats happening... even tho its their systems that are declining your payment.

If PayPal decline a transaction its nothing to do with 3v so of course you wont get much of an answer from 3v when you ask them because they simply dont know why paypal would not take the payment.

As said above, paypal take a $1/€1 transaction fee, which is a charge that goes onto your 3V card to ensure funds are available, if the $1/€1 transaction is successful and not declined by the CC company then paypal know that the card is good. And as I said above, paypal make a money from it too.

Dealing with PayPal is like dealing with the Devil... No matter what you say to them, they cant help you! There customer service staff do not know anything and can not make any descission about you account until they get permission from the resolution center in the US. This can take days! and thats only if they come back to you with an answer.

Anyway, the problem your having is with PayPal, not 3V.

I use 3V at least a few times a week and never had a problem other than with paypal.

Just remember: if buying something for €20 using paypal, top up your 3V by €30. You can always transfere the remainding funds to your next 3V card.

Best keep this to the Paypal megathread, and not bring up half year old threads with little significance.
