barrel length for a .22

    bruce potts done a test on a .22 in the shooting times cutting the barrel down inch by inch at what point does any one know did he get the best velocity.cant find the mag it was in must have given it to some one

    Dunno, but the short barrel configuration for the Anschutz match rifles have barrel lengths of 19.6" for .22lr, and they're accurate to olympic standards.

    I think it was either 16 or 19 inches as I recall. 19.6 does a nice job on some of the short barrelled Anschutz models anyway.

    I have to differ there IWM , but im sure its between 14 -16 inches if memory serves me.

    I have the article somewhere, but that would involve digging through stuff to find it, so I'll just defer. Funny how little barrel is really necessary though.

    some thing tells me its about 16 inchs ,i remember reading it but would like to know when velocity started to drop off and what length was best .he reckoned 20-22 inchs showed lower velocity that the shorter lengths .

    found this link which substantiates my earlier post, its between 14-16, the
    determining factor would I imagine be the burn rate of the powder in the bullet being used, on the same topic, guns and ammo magazine ran a test way back to see how long could you make the barrel of a rifle where it would get to the point that the bullet would decelerate in the barrel to the point of falling out the muzzle onto the floor with zero energy..anyone guess that length?

    I was talking to john green about the very thing and he did a similar test and 16 inches was the result
