certainly wouldn't have thought that there was one in Ireland.

    Citroen Xantia 3.0 V6 (!) 190 bhp, 276 NM torque

    http://www.driving.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=1357697

Nobody will ever buy that ...nobody that would buy a Xantia in the first place anyway ...not with three liters.

Convince the salesman of that, wave a grand under his nose and you could have yourself the cheapest, most comfortable true sleeper car ever ...and with only 60.000 miles to boot.

Geez ..I'm half tempted to buy this myself :o

What is it with discontinued Citroens? The BX sold well but within 2 years they had practically all gone, the ZX has vanished, the Xsara could be too bland to spot but can't recall seeing many. Xantia likewise just seems to have dissapeared.

Methinks it may have something to do with the build quality, or lack of.

I think there's one of them abandoned in the basement carpark. 4 flat tyres, hasn't moved in over 2 years, and appears to be unlocked. I'll give you a tenner to take the fecking thing away :) Can't guarantee it's a 3 litre (or, y'know, that there's an engine there at all), and no idea what year it is as the plates are long gone.

The NCT disc gives the year as 1998!

They will be lucky to get €250 for it!

    I was thinking that myself.

Well, if you give me 50 quid you can take the car, and talk to me for 30 minutes. Now, tell me about your mother.

I see rake loads of Xantias around Dublin. Maybe I just notice them cos I drive one.

If that one was in top condition I'd consider swapping my 00 1.8 for it. But mine has FSH and a folder full of paperwork, so I know my 60k miles are genuine.
Might nip up and have a look at what the condition is like.:)

The reg gives the year as 98 aswell.:)

The 2.0 Activa would be a much more interesting buy.

If you can find a decent one.

I nearly got hold of one before I bought mine. But I hesitated and lost out.

I'd buy it if it came with a year's road tax too. :D

I like it. If I ever went from 2 wheels to 4 wheels I wouldnt mind one of them. Apart from the automatic part though.

    Only comes as an auto.

Either way , once you go auto you wont go back. Especially if your driving includes a daily commute.

No, comes as a 5-sp manual as well, though I can't remember ever seeing either. Anyway, the auto is not much of a sleeper with a 0-100km/h time of 10s

Interesting car to own though, were it not for the tax.

You sure? I havnt seen any info about a manual.

0-60 times I've seen are closer to 8 and a half seconds. Sure the 1.8 is around 10 and a half and that only has 112bhp.

0-100km/h times of 8.2s for the manual and 9.7s for the automatic. The fuel consumption of the auto is pretty bad too, nearly as bad on paper as my 735i, which is much bigger and heavier than the Xantia. I guess the old skool 4 speed auto doesn't help

Edit: apparantly there was an 8v 1.8l base model as well with 90bhp and 0-100km/h in 14.6s (ouch). The 16v 1.8l takes 11.9s

Parkers reckon 8.6s for the 3 litre and 10.5 for the 16v 1.8

    Apparently there was a 89bhp Xantia 1.6 8valve :

    0-60 12.4 seconds

    The 1.8 8 valve was 103bhp.

Totally reliable. I have had 3. A td, a 2.0 16v and now a HDi 90. I have also test-drove Activas and put off buying quite a few.

There's very little usually to go wrong on a Xantia IF it has had regular coolant changes and proper LHM fluid changes. Most people treat them like Toyotas but they're not. They need special care and, if you do, you can get 200k of comfy miles like i have from 2 of them. If you don't, you get 14 bent valves out of 16 (like I have also)!. Timing belt went while waiting for mechanic to give me an appointment :(

www.honestjohn.co.uk have the best advice for long-term Xantia owners. It includes such things as changing the thermostat etc. A lot of cheap preventative work to ensure that this special car is kept roadworthy.

If you're ever buying Citroen, do yourself a favour and buy series IIs. They always rush series Is, then get it right and no one will buy the series IIs! As for whether there are many Xants on the road, there's loads. I drive one and I see 10+ daily in the Midlands.

back to the OP, the V6 is OTT. A 110Hdi will outpull it in practical usage, particularly when chipped to 130bhp. Of course, its the torque figure that matters. Similarly, a chipped 150bhp CT engined Activa will easily produce 200bhp and has a more advanced suspension to a V6 / Exclusive. The Activa is a future classic, with only 10,000 ever built. The V6 is overkill. Unless its in an Activa........... EU only unfortunately
