Any ideas as to where the best place to purchase or get a good bargain??
I've a budget of 14k which would include clearing the VRT....
By the way I'm selling a 1.4 D4D Corolla hatchback 06 with 67k miles on the clock if anybody interested?? wink.gifwink.gif

It's not advisable to buy used diesels up North due to the huge amount of washed diesel being sold. It can cause expensive damage to modern cars.

+1. Always had this thought in my mind as the main reason turning me off northern cars...nice to look at but they'd want new injectors

Plus cars on mainland UK are generally cheaper than up North.

I'm in the market for a 5 door diesel hatch for the wife with a Golf being top of the list. Unfortunately UK prices have strengthened up quite a bit in the last 6-8 weeks. Back in January it was possible to have an '08 Golf TDi in and cleared for around €13,500 but now you are looking at the guts of €15,000. And not a great choice at that price. You need to check out the different emission levels on the Golf as well some are 143 g/km some are 132 g/km some are 122g/km and the bluemotion is 119g/km. this will effect the vrt and roadtax.

Personally I wouldn't import a '07 Golf as you will have much higher road tax and so in 2 or 3 years time it will be a lot harder to sell than a '08 car.

At this rate I will probably end up going for a 110ps 1.6TDCi Focus which should be in for around €12,500 or else if I can convince her I might go the extra money and get a Mini Cooper 1.6D for around €16,500 but she is not keen on a 3 door.
