Question about rankings

How is there such a huge variance in rankings between the different organisations ?

A good example - Michael Jennings - How can a fighter ranked 1 or 2 by the WBO not even be ranked in the top 15 of any of the other orgs. Even he must have known that he didnt have a hope in hell against Cotto (Judging by the way he ran for 5 rounds til Cotto finally caught up with him)

Also why is John Duddy ranked 2, 4 and 7 by WBO/WBC & IBF and not ranked at all by the WBA ???

    Educate me please.

Its supposed to be the judgement of the individuals on the various boxing committees - obviously there are different people on the boards of the various boxing organisations and they will have different opinions of different boxers as most people would. But then you add the heady cocktail of politics and money and this "open to interpretation" logic can get stretched to the limited.

The IBO and BoxRec use computerised ranking which supposedly takes out the human element but this method can be as flawed as the others.

    Cheers Sligo good explanation..

"But then you add the heady cocktail of politics and money and this "open to interpretation" logic can get stretched to the limited"

Is the IBO title close to becoming a "recognised" title now or is this along the lines of say the WBU ?

Wow - didnt think Duddy was ranked that high.. Is it just me or do others think these ratings are fairly generous to him?

The IBO is between recognised and WBU type. They're seen as being considerably less than the main 4, but still considerably better than any of the rest and they have some very good and very popular fighters holding their belt.
They seem to be now what the WBO used to be, and in the future they'll become considered as part of the 'big 5', that's why in truth there's only one World champion and he's made by fighting and beating the best, nothing to do with WBA, WBC or IBF.

I'd say around 5th or 6th would be about right. I also think that his best chance of a title would be a move to light middle - Pat Burns was talking about this when he first took over.. not sure if this is still on the cards though.

IMO Pavlik Sturm and Abraham would have too much for Duddy - even with his new improved defence - using his gloves and arms to block punches instead of his face

I reckon Duddy will be moving down in weight soon(and rightfully so).
Pavilk has been lined up to face Sergio Mora next and there has been no talk of a Duddy bout after that since Duddy's next fight against Billy Lyell was announced. Lyell is a natural Light-Middleweight and a step down from Vanda so I reckon they have Duddy fighting him to give him an easy(ish) opponent on his first fight at the new weight. Otherwise a fight with Lyell would make absolutely no sense as Duddy could fight a similarly overmatched fighter who would have a better record, be a bit better and still not be too dangerous of a test for John.

I'd have Duddy around 7th/8th at Middleweight
    Champion: Pavlik
    1.Abraham
    2.Sturm
    3.Mundine
    4.Gevor
    5.Sylvester
    6.Asikainen
    7.Duddy
    8.Lopez
    9.Geale
    10.Castillejo

Agreed, Duddy needs to move down if possible; it's his best
    chance to succeed.

Yep - Duddy @ light middle is our best chance of an Irish WC in the next 12 months - Unless Dunne can do the business tomo.

I'd love to see Duddy do it, he has a granite chin and I was impressed with him against Vanda. Obviously not as exciting to watch but who cares if it gets him a world title.

As much as I'd love Duddy to win a world title down at light middleweight, I can't see it being the nailed-on certainty that a lot of people do.

I think his best chance of a LMW title is to beat Sergio Martinez. If Forrest moves up to fight Abraham, Martinez would move from interim champ to full champ (I think!). He seems to be the most beatable of the LMW champs at the moment.

BigEars, you'll know. With Duddy ranked no.4 by the WBC at MW, what kind of ranking could he expect to get if he moved down? I'm aware he's ranked no.2 by the WBO but I can't see him beating Dzinziruk or Williams.

Duddy was ranked in the WBC's Light-Middleweight rankings last month or the month before. They had him 4/5th, and he'd be the same again. He'd be able to get an eliminator straight away against Julio Cesar Chavez jnr if Arum was up for it.

I think Forrest would be an easier win than Martinez, but as you say rumour is he's fighting Abraham.
