Im heading to the UK next thrusday for one night. My hand luggage definitely wont exceed the weight allowance but i have a poster in a wooden tube which definitely wont fit into my bag.Its ~1.5m long. I can put it in the bag but it will stick out a mile. Do you think this will be accepted or will i have to pay extra?

To be honest - it all depends on the mood the staff are in at the time you check-in or go through security.

My cousin went with Ryanair recently with 1 piece of hand luggage but also her small handbag, as most women do. But security would not allow her through unless she checked in one of the bags.

Myself & my partner regularly travel with them & have never had a pronlem.

My advice to you would be check-in online thayt way its only getting through sec. thats the problem but also let it stick out of your hand luggage.

TBH ill have no choice but to let it stick out. Im just hoping that itll be accepted as it is quite long, very light but just awkward to actually pack in a bag.

Which airport are you flying from?

TBH you have no chance. They will see something sticking out of your bag as extra euros to be made. Check it in, it'll save you hassle in the long run. They love openin their greasy till and adding their halfpence to the pence...

But surely if you check-in online, you only have to worry about the temperment of the security guard?

Worst case senario is security pull you and you have to check it in. Chance it anyway!

You won't get on because of its size.

It won't fit in the measuring cage at check-in as its too long.

Your problem is the size of the package and not that it's a second piece of hand luggage.

I flew with ryanair on tuesday and before boarding the aircraft, this was past all security checks, they reminded every passenger that it was only one bag per person. Which resulted in everyone trying to squeeze additional bags into their hand luggage.

Just put it into your bag and let it stick out. Once they see you making the effort they'll be fair enough.

I find with Ryanair that if you're polite and look to be sticking by the rules they'll let you off.

I flew dublin - rome - dublin last weekend and loads of people had all sorts coming out of their bags. Just take it out when you shove your bag up overhead.

Flew with them LGW to DUB on Sunday. Woman in front of me was travelling with her kid who had been given a present in the airport but which was too big to fit in her luggage. The kid already had some luggage. The present was abandoned as there was no time to check it in...made sure not to sit near the whimpering kid...I find the check-in stewards generally have dark sooty hearts and have had their faces botoxed to frown so as they aren't allowed show any compassion.

Forgot to say - make sure you check in online though!

Ive been going through twice a week with a laptop bag and a carry on bag.
    Nothing has been said.

Since when do Dublin airport security police baggage for Ryanair anyway?

exactly - security aren't there to police hand luggage size or weight (unless it's something obviously way too big - most of the time they don't even know what belongs to who - if you're checking in online Ryanair hardly ever check hand luggage in my experience when getting on the plane especially if you have kids with you we've regularly sneaked an extra bag on:D

Tell that to the security guards in Heathrow airport. They put the SS to shame. One item or you ain't getting through granny...

If Ryanair can charge they will, my advise is to post the item ahead of you cos the postage would be far cheaper and less frustration and stress at the airport

don't chance it.. cos they'll see it as a weapon.. they will send u back to check it in, but they will be closed so u'll either miss ur flight or abandon your item.. good luck

Depends on the airports you are going through, you would have no chance in the smaller airports that Ryanair are based in. They usually have someone at the checkin gate weighing and measuring bags. I've had to check in bags and pay €30 for just being 1 kilo over. There was a guy in front of me in the queue who had a folded suit bag and roller brief case, they wouldn't let him through because of the 1 luggage rule and his suit was too big to get into his case. He stepped aside put on the suit and put the suit bag and hanger into his case and was allowed through and then he took off the suit. Ridiculous!

Recently i tried to carry with my poster tube in Ryanair. As it is an extra luggage, Ryanair did not allow me to carry. I had to pay 75 Euro for taking as a checkedin bag. If you are going to a conference, be careful with Ryanair. I find other airlines like SAS do not restrict carrying this.
