    I find it somewhat ironic that Comreg provide price comparisons in US$ PPP (Purchasing Power Parity). This is supposed to be used instead of market exchange rates to take cost of living into account when making comparisons between countries (for instance, when looking at wages). However, what we're comparing here is cost of living. The very fact that the cost of living is so high in Ireland is being used to make us look better in international consumer cost comparisons! In fact, telecoms costs make up 3.3% of the CPI (Consumer Price Index) here, a modified version of which is used for weighting in PPP comparisons.

    According to Comreg we have the same line rental as Spain and Portugal and Cyprus when in actual fact we have the most expensive line rental in the whole world and a lot more than they do .

    But Eamon Ryan thanks them for their figures instead of sacking them :(

    Not only that but of the 1,437,730 internet subscribers there are 546,384 of them on some form of dialup.

    Way to go Comreg, highest ARPU, highest line rental and no effective LLU.
    Buy yourselves some champagne, at our expense, and watch Ireland's telecommunications industry disappear.

    ...and it looks like Comreg are finally admitting it (see here for when they didn't). We are literally being held to ransom by Eircom, because there are no other options. Look at these stats from IrelandOnline: http://irelandoffline.org/

    Anyone feel like a revolution?! :mad: Consumers might get some support from Comreg finally...
