More than tuning, body kit too. Think Kahn of Range Rover or AMG of Mercedes.

I was thinking, but AMG/Barabus mercs have monster engines, all the Alpine BMWs I have seen have the same displacement (as ordinary BMWs) just a body kit on..?

Its Alpina not Alpine:P and the cars are much more than just body kits. The same displacement doesnt mean it has the same engine.
I have an Alpina B10 Bi-Turbo. The car it is based on is a 535i. A 535i has a 3.5l engine, my Alpina also has a 3.5l engine, but that is where the similarities stop. The engine in the B10 Bi-Turbo has two turbos, different cam, different head, different rods and pistons and the list goes on and on. The Alpina has 360bhp and does 180+mph, has Alpina suspension, Alpina brakes, Alpina propshaft, Alpina rear diff set-up with cooler for the diff oil and so on Alpina dash display, steering wheel boost control. The body kit and wheels are only a very small part of the whole kit.
You need to look a bit further than just displacement. And even at that there are plenty of Alpinas that have a bigger displacement that the original BMW they were based on.
Alpinas have their own Alpina Chassis number as well.

    I see, my bad.

Do BMW make these bad boys or is Alpina a division of BMW...? :D

Great looking motors by all accounts

Alpina as a company have nothing to do with BMW, they're not like AMG (which are actually owned by Merc). More like Brabus.

Alpina is an independent company, their factory is in Buchloe outside Munich. Look up http://www.alpina-automobiles.com/
There are ties with BMW and the cars they use come direct from the BMW factory to become Alpinas. Genuine Alpinas will have two chassis numbers, the original BMW one and the Alpina one.

Alpina are actually big into wine as well but thats going O/T.

Some Alpinas were also released by Synters in the UK but these tended to be more cosmetic versions with more minor performance mods for the UK market.
Alpina have built some of the fastest production saloons in the world. Back around 1989/90 when the Bi-Turbo was released it was faster than a Ferarri Testarossa and was the fastest Saloon car in the world at the time. The Lotus Carlton was its main rival which had slightly faster acceleration but the Alpina had a slightly higher top speed.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

According to the link, pricing starts from £29,950 in the UK. But we have VRT and higher VAT, so even with the current exchange rates, it's going to be a lot more than €30k here

Ah now lets be realistic, it's a 30+ year old design, and it wouldn't ever see a track or high speed driving. 50mph in that probably feels like 150mph in a modern car.

I'd buy it because it's absolutely gorgeous and has style and heritage oozing out of it's pores. It has no driver aids and is probably one of the purest forms of driving you can get.....sheer joy IMO.

Nothing against that E34 B10 biturbo (sweet car dude) but I think the older E21 looks better....

Its just personal taste really. Personally I prefer the looks of the E34 but any Alpina is good with me. I had wanted a Bi-Turbo since I first saw one on a top trump card when I was a kid:D
