Maybe a chance Nicholls keeps Denman or Kauto in training now and brings them over to the Punchestown Gold Cup, probably not but it would stop it being almost a total waste of a year for Denman.

Disappointing for NC connections, i think his grade 1 winning days are now over as the Irish grade 1's wont be there for the taking next year with Cooldine around.

Bit of a shame that, NC was a lovely horse, if it is [as I read on Aertel] a tendon injury his career is as good as over :(

I suppose the fact that he was beaten by around 20 lengths by the horse he finished upsides with last year meant that something went wrong allright. It's hard luck on him.
It took a good few days for the news to come out about it though, they must have thought it wasn't as serious initially.

To be fair about it the ground didn't suit NC plus KS wasn't right Cheltenham '07. Personally I have a touch of sympathy for NC and Exotic Dancer, two very good horses unlucky to come on the scene at a time when two horses who in effect transcend the sport are on the scene. I do think we are privileged to see two animals of such class in action. My main hope is that they get the chance to compete against each other in the best of form and the best of health. Viva Kauto & Denman :)

Nicholls has stated that Punchestown is a possible for KAUTO....Just booked the week off and have remortgaged the dog house...Happy Days...:D

Denman is done for the year and its a big blow for John Hales and NC...The race in punch would have been his 3rd in a row and a great achievement by the tough grey....

I don't think this is it, NC has been jumping fences for 6 years already, could not run in novices in england when he first arrived, I think he has just had enough and started to decline like many of these French breds. Still very unfortunate to pick up the injury but I wouldn't be convinced that was the reason he ran as he did.

I dont think he ran badly, i think Kauto Star and Exotic Dancer ran much better than they did the previous year, also they were able to use their superior turn of foot to much better effect this year due to the pace not being as searching.
