    Evening all,

The new lesure club based in Waterford is offical and running with the above name.

We have had 2 comitee meetings and have a firm goal and agenda for the club.
You are all invited to a getting to know you spin on the 4th and 5th of April .
It's going from the Cork road side of the Woodies car park out to Tramore at 10 am on both the Saturday and Sunday and we hope to see as many people as possable over the 2 days.
We are keeping it deliberatly short so as many people as can turn up at all levels and enjoy the experince. The commitee members will be on hand to talk to any one who is interested and explain what we are about and don't worry as we will set proper groups and distances going forward from there.
All you need to do is show up with a helmet , a bike and ice cream money!!
For further details call into Spokes bike shop in Waterford,Drop an email to sportifwaterfordcc@gmail.com or PM me on this site. Also keep an eye on the local press as well.

    TTFN,

    Colm

Best of luck with this. Not from Waterford, but I think that this is a great idea.
A lot of folk want to cycle in groups and learn/train to be a better cyclist, but for one reason or another dont have the time/wherewithall to join a racing club.
    Enjoy.

    Hi Colm,

Good you meet you recently, many thanks for sending me on that link. I hope this doesn't seem that I am hijacking your thread, but on the topic of Sportif riding and in the spirit of inter club co-operation some of your members might have an interest in the following event, you will all be very welcome !

Comeragh CC are hosting a Sportif on April 18th in order to raise funds to send a Waterford County team to the RAS. It will be a well supported ride with refreshments, changing facilities, lead cars etc.... The pace will be easy and will cater for absolutely everyone.

For full details along with maps of the routes. Click the following link....

    Don't worry about hijacking!!

WE will support your spin on the 18th no probs and the word has already gone out from our side.

Well done to Robin from Comeragh by the way a great win on Paddys day and he was grinning like a cheshire cat that had got all the cream.

Thanks Colm. Yeah Robin won't let us forget that one for a while. He told us months beforehand that he was basically going to crush the fastest riders in the country at that race and then he actually goes and does it. So we can't even give him a hard time about it now! I shouldn't be surprised, he murdered us all at the training camp in Gran Canaria.

Ice cream money eh ? Sounds like my kind of cycling club.

You know it makes sense, Tramore, 99 cone, sun shine(maybe!)

I was actually Commissaring the combined race on Paddys day so a good result for the south east there as well! Average speed was nearly 39 kmh for the 3 laps a lot of bodies still coming in 10 minutes after the race .

So going back to the original post, nice and handy spin to get you back in time for the sunday dinner and a feeling that you deserve it:D

Comeraghs who are not doing anything are more than welcome by the way.(that means you quigs!!)

I'll no doubt meet up for a few of your spins Colm, nice to enjoy being on the bike from time to time after all ! I am back in training again though and unless I decide to bounce off the road like a meteorite again, will be race ready in about 3 weeks time, so it will be rides with my own club for a little while - you would have seen yourself on Paddys day, what that entails... (race ready for me by the way means being able to hold 40+kph and get around in the bunch by the way ! Not winning or scoring results, that will be quite a bit off I imagine, requires a lot of work to get to that level).

It will be great to have an alternative though on those mornings where I just cannot face another hammerfest and just want a good steady ride but challenging ride, work up a sweat and just enjoy the bike. Have you got your jersey design sorted out yet ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 111 ✭✭Colmhayden76

Yea thanks for reminding me of that Quigs,

We will finalise jersey design this weekend and hopfully have them by the start of June. Colours will be blue and white ala quick step (but more Waterford) but with our club logo etc. They will be available to both members and non members for sale through Spokes from june with all proceeds going to the club.
Also posters and flyers should be out and about over the next few days

Details are being circulated and things are gaining momentum, consensus so far is that a club of this type is long over due for the Waterford region.
