I am currently shopping for tri shorts and tops and was having a look on wiggle.
Basket came to £83.70 with delivery to UK, but to £90.96 with FREE delivery to Eire!
So delivery does not seem that FREE after all ?

some of this will be the different vat rates but I calculate 83.70 as 88.43 with 21.5 v's 15% vat rates. Is the 90.96 a euro price by any chance?

It's the VAT difference. But of you refer yourself (as a friend) to yourself at another email address you'll get a fiver off and that will sort the difference. :)Unfortunately, if memory serves me right the VAT difference doesn't display until payment stage..

Prices above are both Sterling prices.
Did not think about the VAT element though.

The VAT thing is a con. If they are UK based then it is UK VAT you pay, not Irish VAT.

Maybe pop them a wee e-mail. Would be interesting to know their response.

I mailed them a few months ago and that was the response I got - basically as they were supplying to Ireland, they were charging the Irish VAT rate. I left it at that (not particularly happily tbh) as their rates are still good and they are reliable. Interesting one though? One for askaboutmoney.com, perhaps?

It's not a con, in fact they are adhering to the letter of the law. This topic came up last year in the cycling forum. I exchanged a few emails with Wiggle at the time and eventually got a reply from head of finance to say they had exceeded the threshold for imports to Ireland and therefore had to register for Irish VAT.

You can read some info on the relevant law here (section 3)

There's a section at the top of the page, reads something like: "Prices shown in United Kingdom Pounds for despatch to United Kingdom - Change? "

If you click change and select another "Irish Republic", you get Irish VAT rates applied to all products in real time, you don't have to wait until checkout. Note that if you select Euro as currency, you get approximate prices in Euro. The accuracy of these prices depends on how regularly Wiggle update their rates. However, at checkout you will be always be billed in GBP and the Euro conversion is done by your credit card company.

@911sc the VAT differential would explain some of the difference in price, but not all. It may be worth emailing them over the discrepancy. You could also post up the items you were looking at for others posters to add to a basket, see what price they get!

I was looking at 2XU tri shorts and 2XU tri top

Shorts dispatch to UK : £50 list price, and £40.50 my price
Top dispatch to UK : £48 list price, £43.20 my price.
    Total: £83.70

Shorts dispatch to Eire : £52.83 list price, and £42.79 my price
Top dispatch to Eire : £50.71 list price, £48.17 my price.
    Total: £90.96

Okay, just been on Wiggle and added those 2 items to my basket. Note that I did not log in, so my platinum discount did not apply.

When I select UK delivery, I'm getting a 10% discount to both items. However, if I change delivery to Ireland, I only get a 10% discount on the first item, the shorts, there's no additional discount on the top. This would explain the difference between the prices.

Now if I change back to UK delivery and remove the shorts, then total comes to £48 and then 10% discount is no longer applied. I know they have a rule that you get 10% off when you spend over £50 so this makes sense. I need to add the shorts in to exceed £50 and qualify for 10% discount.

However, it appears this £50/10% rule is not kicking in when you change delivery location. This may be a bug, or it may be deliberate, but probably worth an email to them for clarification.

    Hope this makes sense.
