    Hi

I have a 03 pug 206 for past 4 years. Ive never had any problems and I drive quite a lot with my work.
I service every 12 months and its not expensive.

Only downside is they are hard to re-sell privately.

Definitely do a search on the forum - I've replied several times to similar threads!

Long story short, I had one for two years, and my wife has had hers for the last two years. Next to no problems, and servicing has been cheap. The 1.1 isn't quick, but comfortable and competent enough for city driving. They tend to be quite well equipped for cars of that year, and I still think they look good for a car that came out over 10 years ago. My wife had a 98 clio before the 206 - it was also quite well equipped and definitely felt faster, but I didn't find it as comfortable.

Fiance had a 99 1.4L one - it gave nothing but problems.
I hated it - difficult to get access to areas to do any sort of basic work on it as well.
I was delighted when she scrapped it last month.

The markets flooded with them atm so you should easily get a 1.4 for sub €2k, they arent shifting that quick either so there's some room for negotiation too.

Wouldn't be my style, but my friend got a 1.1 last week and seems to like it.

Just make sure you can find a comfortable driving position as alot of owners complain that the foot pedals are too close to each other.

Regarding resale value, everything is difficult to sell at the moment.

I didn't have a problem with that, but I have heard it's a common problem. It's nowhere near as bad as the 106.

I've been learning to drive on my Mam's 1.1 206. Im only 5'8 and a size 10 shoe, but I the pedals quite close together and the tips of my toes brushing off the bottom of the steering column.

Its a very comfortable car and I find it very responsive and easy to drive, but ours has given us a bit of trouble.

We had it in and out of the garage a few times for some engine trouble, cant remember what, and its back in due to some servo in the breaks failing.

If you have small feet and can get a very good deal on it I'd say go for it, but I'd prefer a Polo or Megan over it.

I've had mine for over two years. I like it. It's comfortable and if you rub it the right way it's a nippy little creature.

Some of the electronics in it are a bit weird though - sometimes I go to put on my wipers and one of the windows will open a little, or I go to crack my sunroof and my indicators turn on. I think it gives it character ;)

A polo of that era may well come with no power steering and no electric windows. I could maybe live with get fit windows, but a polo with no power steering is an absolute pig to drive and park. Some cars like the micra are light enough without it, but not the polo.

I have a '02 1.4 HDi (Diesel). Have put 20 K miles on it (had 80K now just over 100 K) Great car, only problem has been bearings failed in one of the back axles, but at 100K miles what do you expect. Easily gets 60 mpg without trying.

I sold a few Peugeot 206's, and one of the later 106's with the 206-type engine. All of them gave trouble, and at this stage I wouldn't touch one.

The best one was a 1.4 P206 estate - the only trouble it gave in the warranty period was the wiper linkage mechanism. The 106 got a coil, a cat, gear linkage, etc. I had to buy back one of the 206's from a customer, and had to do warranty work on it the second time I sold it. Problems include:
    - coils
    - cat
    - fuel injectors
    - electric radiator fan motors
    - wiper linkages

They are a cool looking car, but best avoided in 1.1 at least.

Nice looking little cars but are prone to electrical probs , I friend of mine had to get a new gearbox after 68k miles.

a mate of mine has a 1.4 hdi. Its peppy enough for a car of its size and its a miser on diesel. I'm unsure if that model was avail back in 00/01 though!

i have a 99 1.9l Diesel 306 110k miles, service every year, has the odd problem like part of exchust came off, wiper motors had to be changed, but other than that it's a great little car and nice to drive, cheap with diesel.

I have a 1.4 hdi one. Its a car/van version. I adore it. Not a single fault have I had since owning it (1 year).

If your getting one, get the 1.4hdi (diesel) version. The engine was build by ford, pug and citroen. Its the most reliable diesel engine on the market, even more so than vag diesels. Its mpg is stated as 66mpg combined, and its actually not far off in real life driving.

I have only two problems with it, the wipers wash the wrong way! But thats not a fault, just my preference and a bit of getting used to, and sometimes my foot rubs off the steering column when I have the clutch pressed in. Other than that I dont have a bad word to say of it apart from getting it in red!!

would the 1.4 be a hardier car?
i was thinking about 1.2 for insurance reasons..

Per posts here, 1.4 HDi is best. 1.4 petrol seems better than the 1.1 ... in my books the 1.1 should be avoided at all costs, but that's my opinion.

However, if going for a 1.4, why buy a 206 at all ? Focus and Corolla are way better cars than 206.
