    Hi,

I have an old car in front of my house. I have not taxed it since June, the last time I got a motor renewal form I told them it was off the road. A nice chap in a Transit has offered to take it off my hands for €100. It failed the NCT, but can be driven away. I can't imagine he is the type of chap who will fill out a change of ownership form. Think it is safe enough for him to take it away? I don't want to hear it was used in a drive by shooting at an orphanage or anything. Anyone I can ring in advance to tell them that the car has been scrapped?

Do you have the tax book? If so, transfer it into his name.

Indeed. Whatever you do, do not give him the tax book. It is your job to send the tax book back to Shannon.

Sounds fairly f**king dodgy alright... ask for proof of ID, incase he accidently gives you the wrong name...

Indeed, you don't want the Gardaí after you when it is used to ram raid a bank.

Unless you break up the car for parts yourself, you cannot record the car as "scrapped". You are selling it, not scrapping it.

Personally I would make it a condition of sale that the ownership is transferred into the name and address that matches his ID or driving license. You, the seller, are responsible for this. I would rate getting the paperwork right as more important than being paid 100 euro for the car ... could cost you a lot more than 100 euro in headaches later if there is a problem !
