Chain tools

I tried and failed to take a link out of my Tricross Single chain this morning using a Park multitool.

Every time I wound in the screw, the chain popped out of the tool.

I was doing this to one of the two smooth-looking pins in the chain.

I used a (different) multitool for this years ago, and don't remember it being in any way difficult.

Any recommendations for a decent tool? I don't fancy trying to do this at the top of a mountain.

Been there done that. Cheap and small chain tools are a false economy. Get the biggest one you can get. I've a massive Tacx one that always does the job.

+1 on the Tacx one but I also have this one from Park which I bring with me on spins and it works just fine.
