just bought an ultegra 10sp chain in Cycleways. price was very competitive with prices on wiggle + crc, so good purchase indeed.

what i want to know is whether i can fit a powerlink/quicklink to the chain so i can remove it easily to degrease etc...? possible?

as a side note, found buying a new chain + cassette to be cheaper than buying online. i actually saved money by not buying on wiggle!

I have one on both my 9speed shimano setups, and it comes in a 10spd flavour, so I'd imagine the answer should be yes.

Something like this is what you need.

Bit of a hijack here while we're on chains. I need to replace mine on my Langster, will any track bike chain advertised do (as I can modulate with the horizontal drop out) or should I be looking for a certain length ? The ring ratio is as of the factory.

    Thanks

I got one of those KMC yokes on the Dura-Ace chain that came on my new bike, looks from Tonto's link that it is re-usable.

Note that while SRAM 9 speed are reusable the 10 speed links (actually called "Powerlocks" are NOT reusable.

Any track chain should do and you'll invariably need to shorten a new chain by removing a few links. The only thing to look out for is whether your bike takes a 1/8" or 3/32" chain.

Yeah I don't understand that. If you're going to go with something non-reusable, why would you choose a powerlock over a standard pin? Seems a bit pointless to be honest.

Ease of installation. It's harder to muck up a snap on thing.

I have one on my KMC chain (10 speed) and it is indeed reusable. I've also used them with SRAM chains so I assume that they'd be fine with shimano too.

I've put the other one i have in my saddle bag as a back-up in case of chain breakage (an unfortunate episode with AstraMonti in Enniskerry highlighted to me the importance of chains, and the crappiness of most small chaintools).

with those 2 piece chain links, you use a pliers not a chain tool! as i found out to my dismay while cleaning my chain one day : (

SRAM 1070 is a good chain but pricey.

Ultegra is probably the best bang for the buck, last time I bought chains I got three Ultegra chains from CRC for £40 (Christ, just checked the price there on CRC and it is £82/3 now ).

Some suspect that 105, Ultegra and Dura Ace chains are identical excepting what is stamped on them, certainly the weight is exactly the same (280g.)
