I'm not getting a lot of useful info where I'd expect to find it on this one, so here's a query:

Why is it that ajax websites or apps, or plugins, when they auto-update, tend to pause flash video/apps, or the browser as a whole?

    Example:
Leave Gmail, or twitbin open and browse normally in another window. every time the ajax/java app updates, it will freeze the whole browser for a second or so.

Is this, as I suspect, just down to Java being a piece of ****?
