Anyone ever tried to make one?
Was thinking about giving it a go if I can get the idea past my metalwork teacher. Any tips on making one?

Suppose it'd be easy enough done with a lathe, tap and drill...probably wouldn't work too well if at all though... They're too cheap to buy to bother making one unless its a custom jobbie imo

You won't be able to tap the inside of the tube with anything less than a CNC controlled lathe. Manually tapping such a wide diameter tube of such thin material just won't work. You won't get the accuracy or the tolerance.

Be very carefull how you take it forward, anything that would work would also be illeagle and they have got very touchy about real steel supressors these days.

I'm guessing that seeing as how you called it metalwork you're doing junior cert. metalwork? not being smart or anything but considering the average level of skill of junior cert I would advise against trying this (not just saying this, did metalwork for junior cert and engineering for leaving cert).

whatever about skill, the main thing that would make or break it for you if you did go ahead with it is planning. whatever you want to do, do not go near a machine until you know exactly how its all going to go together. seen a good few people over the school years trying to make projects up as they go along and it never works well.

also if it doesnt work out you're teach is going to be annoyed for you wastin time and materials! :p

Lathes have a threading setting for the trolley(?), set it up and turn it on and wait for it to finish, hooray!

Not all of them are accurate enough to tap .75mm aluminium tube of such a wide diameter. Some can, but not all. It's also a dreadful hassle to go through for something you can pick up for 30 quid anyway.

I'm incliened to agree that doing this is a waste of time and that it could land people in hot water in many many ways so lets leave it at that.
