i know this is a similar topic to one posted earlier, but i wasn't sure whether i should add to or start a new topic.

i have mentioned before that i am buying a fixed gear track bike and am wondering what is the best method to ascertain frame size.

    i am 6' and some change (less than 6' 1") and have a 33" inseam. should i get a 57 or 59cm frame?

i'm that height and i have a 59. i certainly wouldn't want anything smaller personally.

cool. i know the geometry is different in track bikes, and the bottom bracket is higher. does that mean that standover height is higher? this is possible a very ridiculous question.

what i ultimately want to know is: is a 59cm track bike going to have a higher standover height than a 59cm road bike? and also, is it a trackbike you own crown of storms?

yea, it's a track bike i'm on- it has a horizontal top tube so the bike feels quite big but i like it that way!

ok perfect. just a tiny bit more information. are you a 33" inseam? and can you stand over the bar without castrating yourself?!

thanks so much for your help

    Would you consider a 58cm???
It depends completely on the bike/frame - e.g. whether the top tube is sloping or flat, top tube length etc. The top tube length is just as important as the seat tube length when determining bike-fit.
Best method is to measure a frame that you know fits you well and go from there.
BB height doesn't necessarily affect standover - once again depends on the frame.

    I'm 6' with short legs/long torso and have a 54cm road bike, a 54cm cross bike, a 56cm cross bike, and a 58cm road bike.

The 54cm road bike is too small.
The 58cm road bike is a little too big.
    Both cross bikes feel fine.

So, it rather depends on geometry, but I'd guess a 57 will fit you better than a 59.

Inseam measurement is easy to get wrong - not the same as trouser measurement as you're supposed to press up with the normal force of a saddle, and that's tricky (usually involves a broomstick and willing accomplice).

Regarding your 58cm road bike :), I had swapped the stock 20mm setback seatpost for a 5mm setback one, it felt a bit big until I did that but was fine after. You could also get a shorter stem, reckon 100mm would do the job.

LOL. I undid your good work by shoving the seat all the way back in order to achieve "KOPS", which may be a myth but seemed a good starting point. Have thought about the shorter stem, but plan to do a few more miles before I commit. :)
