Coming from a conversation in another thread, I got to thinking who would be regarded as part of the Top 5 tattooists in Ireland (in no particular order).
I'd like to see if there's some consensus regarding talent (maybe also have a good debate) and maybe some new talent might be brought to light. So without further adieu, here's Diceicles Top 5:

    1. Jani
    2. Darren in Colourworks
    3. Justin Russell
    4. Wojt in Wildcat
    5. Joe Myler

In no particular order, 8 artists that stand out to me, 1 or 2 lesser known people

michelle in art tattoo for tribal and japanese style work
joe myler of jmd's for all round solid tattooing (that i've seen)
pawel in snakebite for his colour work and bio mech
karen russell of holy cow tattoo for her birght colours and floral work
wojt is hugely under rated and not well known it seems, from his online portfolio it is impressive
erin dublin tattoo company, solid work, nice colour too.
darren & rob in colour works also
guy in southside ink, rathmines, doing molbert's koi, wouldn't have known about him otherwise. Good work.

i think your list of the top tattoo artists differs to my opinion.

for a start darren in colour works was a great tattoo artist, but he doesn't tattoo as much as he used to and with tattoo you gotta keep progressing you can't stp when you think your on top of the world!

i would agree jani is a great tattoo artist, but there is so many talented guys out there you can't possilbly narrow it down to 5 like that.

joe deegan in connected ink is a great artist, and rob from colour works i would say is better than darren, because he is constantly progressing and wanting to learn more.

    Please, enlighten us.
A link to some of Deegans work would be of help. I've heard mixed reviews to be honest.
From what I've seen of both Rob and Darren, Darren is the better artist. Just because Rob is hungrier (if that is true) doesnt make him a top 5 just because of his want to learn, a Top 5 would surely consist of the "top" i.e best artists.

Thing about this is it's all subjective, my top 5 or whatever won't be the same as other as i will be looking for other things in an artist than say diceicle there.

    chris crooks in belfast

    debbie

yeah keeping an eye on the thread.

Don't want this turning into a cake throwing war or people just trying to pimp certain artists cos they've a hard-on for them.

    Keep it nice please everyone.

As long as people can stick to a top 5 (or there abouts) the thread should be fine against pimping of any particular artists. As long as people can give personal experience as part of their 'critique' regarding interactions with an artist I think thats fair (so no "I won't go to x because my friend says he smells' type comments) as is critiqing someones work to date and why you consider them one of the best in Ireland. Nothing wrong with that as far as I can see.
    And with that in mind:
    @Hot2def
Debbie, is that the Debbie who used to tattoo in Snakebite? Would you have a link to her work, I'm always interested to see new talent.
What made you pick Mick as part of your Top 5? I had a look and while its definately good (theres a really good bio0mech shin piece) I wouldn't say one of the 5 best in Ireland?

    @Will,
Have you a link to any of Karen Russells stuff of late. I can't find anything. The .com she has is down.

because his lines are bold, clear, well placed. his color and contrast is going to last. his designs are well drafted, and he is a plesant helpul tattooist. And he is an excellent all rounder.

There are shockingly few tattooists in the country you can say the above about.

Seen her work at the dublin convention and stuff was good from what i saw. Didn't wanna hang by the booth all day though like some weirdo.
She has done work on a person here named porn*star*, a tool inspired side piece. Amazingly colourful. Their website is down and can't find anything online unfortunately.

There are some really good tattoists here in Cork (as well as Karen Russell). Damn ye and yer Dublinessnesssnesss.:pac:

I don't really know much about tattoos at all. I really don't. Just know what I like xD.

Have to say anything i've seen by Connie in Tattoo Zoo here or Trish in Tribal Ink have been class.

Me fella (lol) is getting his sleeve done by Connie and so far it looks amazing, great with colour and shading.

As far as I know, he'll be back to do guest spots a few times a year. Just keep your ears open as to when he'll be back!
