    Hi
I have a 99 vw golf. The front door drivers side wont lock with the key. However the central locking is still working when i lock the door from front passanger door. So i suspect front door lock is broken(seems be common problem i hear). So every time i want to lock or open car i have to go around to passanger side. Is it possible to change the lock from front passanger door with the front drivers door. It would save me buying a new lock.

Thanks in advance for any replies really appreciate it.

I had exactly the same problem... the key would turn but nothing would happen.

It seems to be a really common problem, you can either get the barrel replaced... I was quoted 100e+ or there is repair kits you can get which is what I did... took about 2 hours (I'm slow) but wasn't to hard

Did it work? I don't really want to spend €90 on a new barrel.

My one now has to be opened via the boot. I used the ebay repair kits on mine too, but they have now ceased to function again 5 months later, although the driver side door does occasionally work.

VW reliability my hole. Worst car I have ever owned, no major probs, it has never let me at the side of the road, but the amount of little things that go wrong with the electricals and suspension, not to mention a serious (and apparently very very common) oil drinking problem.

    Lol, too common.

It was something so simple too, can't remember now, but something was put on upside down IIRC. I love my Golf, but it's such a pain sometimes.
