Construction waste forum

    Hi,
I'm conducting a research PhD on how best to reduce the levels of waste produced on site during the construction process.

My research will mainly be based on the design stage of the construction process and how inefficiencies in the design process can lead to excess waste on site.

Examples of these inefficiencies would include overspecification of structural steel, or failing to take into account the standard sizes of materials (e.g. 2438 x 1220 plasterboard slabs) which could reduce waste through minimisation of off-cuts.

The purpose of this forum is for people to highlights areas where they feel there is room for streamlining the design process leading to a reduction in waste over the duration of the project which should have the effect of reducing the overall cost of the project, increasing profitability for the builder, and decreasing costs for the client.

With tender prices being cut to a minimum it is obviously very important that aby saving that can be made should be made so if you have any ideas please share them for everyones benefit!

    Thanks, DD

    Hi Dowdy,

Welcome to boards. Just to clarify based on your post above which I may be mis reading.

If you would like to request a forum which is solely devoted to dealing with construction waste you should make a request here:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=461

If what you require though is one specific thread to discuss construction waste issues that is possible though I will perhaps look for a more appropriate forum to place the topic instead of Engineering.

    Please just let me know.

    Regards,

    Woden
