Right so i've owned my Accord Euro R for a little under a year now, while its a great car and never an ounce of trouble i just find myself abit bored with it.

My intent a few months back was to move on to an evo 8,but decided to sit on the fence for abit,i've also always had a softspot for an E46 M3 and it had been a toss between the two up untill now.

I was out browsing car's and took a test drive of one of these - http://www.carzone.ie/search/Honda/Civic/2.0-TYPE/200840190265310/advert

I've always been a honda fanboy and owned 5 so far, never had a days trouble with any of them and still love them.

I realise each car is a totally different beast in there own right, but yet im being drawn more and more to the honda, except for once im thinking am i bloody mad spending 30 odd grand on one?

I suppose some of the attraction is that im familiar with them to work on at this stage so servicing ect is within my capabilities, whereas with the M3 or Evo i would be abit more reluctant to start taking things apart.

It will be a daily driver car and the fear with the other's is that im buying into possible trouble and large expense, but on the other hand im thinking your only here once bite the bullet and enjoy it while you can!

So basically can someone talk some sense and put into perspective what the best option is of the 3!

If you really want to stand out, go for the Civic saloon. I think they look class tbh. Although, at the same time, you would get a 04 M3 for less than that, and well, that sounds much better:D

Sorry guys, Im a little off topic here but I've always wanted to know why they are called Accord Euro R's when that version of the Accord never came to Europe and the one that did wasnt available as a Type R? What am I missing. ( PS I know nothing about thoses mad banzai jap cars )

it does look nice, but for that kind of money id be looking at a 911 or something, but horses for courses and all that

I think the logic behind it was that the Accord that we had here in Europe was different to the one sold in Japan at the time. Different styling, body panels, etc. So Honda decided to sell a performance version of the European only Accord in Japan calling it the Euro Type R to destinguish it from the standard Japan Accord. The Euro Type R was never planned to be sold to Europe.

Thanks bazz, I didn't know that either. That JDM Accord looks horribly bland, but I suppose that is the style the Japanese prefer.

Wouldnt be seen dead in the yoke but each to their own I suppose.

Go take a M3 for a blast & report back. No comparsion between any civic & an M3 IMO.

I'ver had a spin in an M3 and the evo too, there both a different league altogether in comparision to the civic, which is by no means a slow boat either, but im just slightly afraid of being bent over with running costs of the M3 and on the other hand a whopping depreciation hit on the civic

You are not wrong, there is absolutely no comparison between the purchase price or running costs of the two.

Isn't the motor tax on the Civic €1,000 because the car will be treated under the new CO2 based motor tax regime?

depends on wether it was registered between jan-end of june or not?
although from the pics with no reg plates, i would assume that the dealer hasnt registered it so you may well be stung with the higher co2 road tax instead of the 614e cc based system.

That was my reasoning too. Although I don't understand how the car has clocked up over a thousand miles without plates? Maybe it is a second hand import (from Japan?) and the dealer just took the plates off?

yeah, you can get a decent m3 for around 22k now, doesnt have to be new does it,

and what it costs extra in running costs you should save on depreciation
