Anyone know about the required phone line connection for Sky boxes? I had a Sky sub years ago and never had to connect to a phone line, am thinking of re-subscribing.

How often does it "ring" Sky? Is it just once for activation of the card, or is it regular for the first year?

As regards to the phoneline Sky have dropped the N.L.L fee for the month of March. Those connected to a phone line (with multiroom) has to have it connected for a minimum of 12 months (m/room untill you have it removed) Sky does a call back every so often and god only knows when that is (TBH i dont think even he knows:D) could be 2moro could of been 5 mins ago could be in the next 30 seconds.

If you wanted to subscribe to SKY this month - they have an offer at the minute of free installation - if you had no phoneline would they waive the €37.50 for no phone line as well??

I just subscribed to sky there last month and have no phone line. it does say in the small print you need one but i did a bit of research and you only need a phoneline if you want to update the box itself. So you can get sky no probs. I know Sky do annual checks to make sure your box is connected but your phoneline isnt required for this.

You do not need a phoneline when signing up to Sky, Sky+ or Sky+HD.

It is best to mention it when subscribing/resubscribing though :)

You need a phoneline for multi-room, box office etc, that is it. Nothing major.

I know the Sky + doesnt NEED a phone line but when you install sky for the first time it says that you need to pay €37.50 for non-standard installation.

they have an offer this month which negates that fee

    Hmmm......

Is that if you sign up before the end of the month or have it installed??

Its if you sign up before the 31st March.

Just after ringing Sky and the offer eliminates the installation fee but the €37.50 fee for no phoneline still stands

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,062 ✭✭✭dlambirl

Yes but you had a phoneline to connect it too....

The no phoneline fee is for people (say in new builds) that dont have a phoneline at all. I think they use the phoneline during installation for installing/activating.

My next door neighbour got Sky there at xmas and they have a phoneline, so therefore hadnt to pay the €37.50 but the sky installer only plugged the sky box into the phoneline to activate it then took out the phoneline.

Hi, if you order at the moment through any of the Sky kiosks or through independants, you won't have to pay the NLL fee. Sometimes Sky Direct will not have the same offers we have here.

I'm from the Cavan/Monaghan border so if i called to the Kiosk in the Drogheda shopping centre before 31st march would i get the deal of no installation fee and no phone line fee.

If i ordered it on 31st march, do i have a certain amount of time to have it installed or could i wait for a month to have it installed??

Yes, you should get the deal. 24.50 for Sky+ and 29 for HD ( Note - HD has a monthly sub of 14.75 )

A months wait would not be a problem.

I took a look at the sky website and got a list of the sky shops and tried to ring a couple in my area and no answer from any of them??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,162 ✭✭✭von Smallhausen

Cant explain why they didnt answer...I'd say they either were busy or were finished for the day. I normally finish at 5pm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,062 ✭✭✭dlambirl

I was trying the whole day!

Anyway, just as i was about to leave work, one of the sky shops rang me back - I cant remember which one!! I asked them about the offer and he never heard of it.

Although he did say that delaying installation shouldnt be a problem.

Ah for the love of God.

Wouldn't you just PM Danny and get him to sign you up on the offer? Hello?

    :)

Oh for the love of the big man upstairs...can you rethink which one of the shops rang you back? I would love to get my hands on them for not paying attention.

Hi, quick question, im thinking of getting in sky but i have no phone line, now thats fine, but i want a point in my room and he said thats not possible without a phone line, but there is a thing you can get to go on your telly so you can watch whats on downstairs.

Does anyone know what this thing is and is it any use?

I have chorus at the mo, but sky works out cheaper per month if i dont have to pay for the extra point, as i do with chorus.
    Thanks

Just after looking through my recieved calls and it was the sky shop in Navan shopping centre. He didnt have a clue of any offer - which is bad when even sky tell you about it when your ring?

    Danny_B wrote: »

How does that work Danny B?? Would i get it for no installation and no phoneline fee and get it for €24.50 - half price sky+ box?? What would i have to do? Would that mean that you would be installing it when the time comes?? I'm in the cavan/monaghan area.

Also, about the magic eye - how much are these babies?? How do they work - like where do they plug in/work?

Ah Navan...thats a bit away from Monoghan aint it.

Well you would just sign up with a new contract. And then its €24.50 for the plus box and there is €50 installation. Its only free with multiroom. Well if I get an answer back from my boss we will do the installation when you want it done.

The Magic Eye, Im not too sure how they are connected. You can get one in Argos price wise im not too sure, or We can install one for you in with your installation but we charge €95 to supply it and install it.

Navan is about 20 minutes away from where i live.

So the installation is only fee when you go with multiroom??

Oh right, my geography isnt great lol.

Yea the installation fee is weived when going for multiroom. Which is noted on the Sky website.

So for my case (just normal sky+) there would still be a €50 installation fee? is that right or wrong?

    Just to update:

I rang Sky directly last night and was able to sign up and didnt have to pay for standard installation - saving me €50 plus getting the sky+ box for half price - whats the bet an even better deal will come out in April

They were able to leave the installation date blank so i'll be able to ring up whenever i want it and order it.

Yer man rhymed of aload of stuff about installation - what the installers was and was not allowed to do  "Tack wire to skirting board"??? Eh...no thank you!!
