Not sure if this is the right forum or not to post this.

I have a quick question. My wife lived in ireland for 3 years and left 2 years ago. Her job originally need gardai clearence as she works with kids. Fast forward to today she has applied for a job in ireland that needs gardai clearence. Would she have to be vetted again as this takes aprox 6 weeks. Would this affect future employment if the clearence doesnt come in time. Should she get it now or wait for her employee to obtain it.

I don't work with kids as my main day job. I did however once have to get clearance (in the UK) when doing some out of hours extra work with kids at a previous employer. It took just a few weeks.

Your best bet is to ring up the local station and find out exactly what they require from you to process your application. I guess they just check you have no odd convictions. It shouldn't cost you anything.

    hiya,
    i work in child care
we had this problem in work 2day, a new girl started with us through FAS and the health inspectors came and looks for all gardai clearence although her's wasnt available as it takes several weeks, the inspector said she should not be in the work place, but never asked for her to leave or not come back until its got..

once its already sent off for it should be ok, as my first time the inspector came in and as it was already in the pipe line, she said it should be ok..
which in my eyes wasnt good...

    hope this helps

If a new employer would accept a two year old clearance, then I'd be very reluctant to have them (the new employer) looking after my kids etc!

Is there any reason why she shouldn't just apply for it now???

Vetting is only required every 5 years in the HSE, so a 2 year old one should be ok.

She cannot get her own clearance anyway, her employer will have to do it, they will expect to do it as a matter of course for any new employee.
