Above is list of the compiler's "100 most beautiful places". I don't actually know if they're supposed to be 'in order' or not. Anything missing?

I've notched 26/100, must try harder!

    1,2,3,4,5,8,11,12,16,19,20,30,39,57,63,65,67,75,77,78,84,85,92,94,97,100

Youre just showing off ;) I aint seen nearly as many. I think the cliffs of Moher should be there instead of the Giants Causeway though.

I will hopefully be seeing Machu Picchu, Iguazu waterfalls, Amazonian virgin forest, Rio bay and the Salt flats during the summer though. Maybe the Galapogas as well.

Showing off? Yes, absolutely! I travel a lot with work. Funny though, I've been to Myanmar but never been to Giant's Causeway or Cliffs of Moher. I could get up any Saturday morning and do it, but I don't.

Sounds like a hell of a summer Tusky, I love South America, Peru especially.

Is the Inka trek to Machu Picchu worth the 300 odd euro ?

Cliffs of Moher are definitely worth a peek!

I did an alternative route to Machu Pichu. There are actually many possible routes of varying difficulty and duration. Myself and a friend did a 5 day, 4 night Salcantay option for 150 dollars or so, I believe we paid over the odds when compared with some others on the same tour (depends where booked and with whom, we were nervous and booked from Lima) but I can't remember the exact details and it was 5 years ago besides.

The Inca Trail, is a very specific route with limited numbers allowed and extra fees hence 300 dollar fee and you have to book a month in advance (unlike the other routes). I didn't do it so its hard to compare but I have heard its a lot busier, more touristy and actually less scenic than the Salcantay route which can be booked at much shorter notice. The 'proper' Inca trail takes in some (very) minor incan ruins along the way whereas the others are just mountain treks ending at Machu Pichu.

Which you do is up to you. If you want, you can get a train from Cuzco to Aguas Calientes at Machu Pichu's base and then a 10 minute coach in the morning up to the main gate and forget the hiking all together. If you fancy some hill walking into the bargain then I'd have to reccommend the alternative trails as they're cheaper and more customisable, 7,5 or 2 day hikes that I remember, maybe more in between. But as I say, I never did the main trail, I'm only going off what people we met who had said.

A day trip from Cuzco to the Incan fortress of Ollyantaytambo is good too, the 3rd most impressive Incan site after Machu Pichu and Cuzco itself IMO.

seems like a big jumbled mess of a list to me, like they just threw in a few famous sites together, grand canyon and the louvre on the same list  yellowstone and Kennedy space center  angel falls and big ben

of the places i have seen on that list i would have 4-5 others (that i have seen in person) ahead of most of them.

Agreed its a bit jumbled but its not a list of the 100 most beautiful buidlings, or the most beautiful nature spots, its just a collection of a little bit of everything! Further, some of them are very vague, e.g. The Saharra or Prague! It gives some ideas of things to visit at least but nobody is ever going to compile the definitive list that pleases everybody

Like? I can't think of any glaring omissions off the top of my head but you wouldn't need to spend much time convincing me there's something better than say the Forbidden City in Beijing that's been excluded. I think some things have been left off because of there was too many other things from the same city/country all ready.

Have also been to 13 of them! Not too sure about that list though - some obvious crackers but some other weird non-runners too as far as I'm concerned.

    5, 8, 31, 35, 38, 39, 44, 46, 54, 56, 57, 63, 67, 78, 79, 84, 92, 98. (18)
I agree with some of ye there, the Cliffs of Moher could be in it.

i've seen 24 on that list. good list but i agree certain places mean more to some than to others, and you could easily think of a few to add/remove.

i don't agree about putting cliffs of moher instead of the gian't causeway (in fact i wouldn't put cliffs of moher at all). the latter is one of the most incredible geological phenomenon on the planet and the other are nice cliffs as far as i'm concerned.

One place I do not see there that I think should be in is the Golden Temple of Amritsar.

just going on ones i have seen in person, yosemite valley in june, arches NP, mount teide NP, Plitvice Lakes NP, isle of capri, innsbruck/chamonix (the settings more than the towns themselves), scottish highlands.

no table mountain, no iceland, no zermatt, no everglades

sticking man-made stuff in with amazing natural wonders of the world imo is silly, venice, rome and barcelona ok but the likes of kennedy space center, Big Ben and the Parliament Square, The Eiffel tower, The Petronas towers etc should be on another list.

Yep, would have to agree with that.

Yosemite is gorgeous, and Table Top would be a good one. I'd put those in the list ahead of a lot of the buildings. Especially the modern ones like Burj Al Arab and Petronas towers. It would make more sense to categorise the list.

    Impressive!

I counted 17 for the record, not that it means anything. The list seems extremely arbitrary and, frankly, random. There doesn't seem to be any explanation as to how the list was chosen.

They were probably all of the places the person who made the list went to.

Its not a bad list. You can tick off 4 or 5 with one trip too, which is good for the numbers. I would include a few more there though. Like Masai Mara and the Serenghetti (not just the crater). Lake Nakuru in Kenya too.
Mount Rushmore, Mt St Helens. Hollywood walk of fame (dirty but impressive). Meteor Crater, Arizona. Monument Valley. South Beach, Miami at night. Dunnes River falls, Jamaica. Mt. Etna. Monte Carlo. And many more.

Been to 38 of them, hardest to get to was Mount Everest, tough enough two week walk in and out.

No 8. The Big wall of China.

Doesn't sound too impressive but maybe worth a look. :D

as a ex british merchant seaman i was lucky to sail around the world a few times i have seen many places that would take your breath away but if i had to pick one it would be in the black sea -early one morning i walked on to the deck of the ship [we were going to the black sea port of poti in georgia ] the sky was very blue except for some very white clouds on the second look i realized they was not clouds in fact they were the top of the ural mountains -for one moment i got religious

    Been to 27.....

    1, 2, 10, 11, 12, 24, 33, 38, 39, 44, 46, 48, 51, 53, 54, 57, 63, 67, 68, 74, 78, 79, 81, 87, 90, 94, 99

Looks like i need to get to asia and west coast of the US before i could top 50.

Some strange places on the top 100 - the Burq al Arab would not feature on mine - its just come concrete. I think i could name 100 places ive been which are more impressive and not on the list.

Going to Giants causeway soon, so will make it 28 :)

been to venice, no. 35. Wasnt that impressed, its nice to see, but its not worth the hype. its smells, its horrificly expencive and full of tourists and pigeons.
I really did not like the masks ether, creepy as fuk!

liked the vatican, no. 38. amazing. Rome is extreemly expencive though.
Coluseem, interesting, not beautiful though, considering hundreds of people were mauled to their death there.

Florence is possible one of the most beautiful places i have ever been, it was really worth getting up at 6 am for.

Didnt like no. 56, versailes. Possible coz i was quite young when i was there and just was really board!

The Neuschwanstein castle is deadly! Its really fantasy castle. didnt go into it. I dont think you can, can you?

Absolutly love No. 79, The Sagrada Familia. It is fabulos to look at. Not finished on the inside ether! How long are they building it now?

no 81, in january, sooooooo cold.

I would be adding the city of madrid also!
