    Folks,

Anyone know if it is possible to source very large boulders from the quarry in this country. I note in Spain these are often used to build retaining walls and I need to change levels in a part of my garden I was considering large boulders as a possible option as I quite like the look...

Has anyone ever seen this done here ?

Something on this scale I would have in mind...

A better match for the shape of stones...

Gabions can also be a decorative option for this. They are the wire cages with stone built inside them. I used to have a summer job building them as retaining walls. They are relatively cheap. easy to put into place and easy to build. All you have to do is build the front of the cage with the flat sides of the stone and fill the back with loose stone.

Have a look at them here:

Quarries in ireland are not likely to have boulders like the onee you have shown. They are very uniform and likely cut for the purpose.

Quarries tend to blast rock so it is well fragmented to save on crushing costs

    Hi,

I think you are looking for "Cut Stone" kinda smaller than boulders.

I expect having them cut to order would be an expensive proposition, you might have better luck with salvage yards, I remember seeing ads in buy and sell for similar stone from old properties being demolished.

Might be a start if you can work out the general dimensions that would suit your project.
