So I get out for my St Patrick's day spin. A hilly route where all hills are big geared. I've done three climbs already including Sally Gap from Blessington and the legs are pretty tired but I've only got half of Sally gap from the Laragh side to go and one more climb and then I'll be home. Given its St Patricks day promises were made about the parade and being home for 10am. I got on the road about 5:30 so I hit this point just before 8. Pssssssstttt. Puncture. No worries, whipped out the tube, found the offending nail, lashed in another tube and went to reinflate with my CO2 tool. Nothing. Didn't work. The spike to puncture the canister was gone. 1:10 minutes messing with stones and the like to try and puncture the cannisters only result in a mess and an exploded cannister. Cold and miserable about 9:10 a van came along and gave me a lift to Laragh were at least there would be mobile coverage and maybe a pump. 45 minutes waiting in Laragh for a cyclist with a pump. Fcuking nightmare.

I did see the boards spin out between Glencree and Sally Gap on the way home. I would have been the prat with more lights on the handlebars and full winter gear and a helmet mounted light. it was colder and darker when I set out :)

Moral of the story - check your tools before you head out!

    05:30 start - very impressive.

I've been trying to find one of these, reviewed here, for this circumstance.

Wiggle stock them but don't ship them to Ireland, presumably because they come with a canister.

I do but it's those effing mini ones takes an era to re inflate and hard to get better then 70-80 psi.

Got burnt with those CO2 cannisters before still carry then though . (My son set one off in the back of the car one day spectacular effect !!)

Ah yeah, wasn't sure if that was a camera on your helmet or a light when I saw you flying past yesterday.

Thanks. It's amazing how £37 becomes €59 when it crosses the Irish Sea, even when the exchange rate is close to 1:1. I'm not sure I want one that much. :(

I agree, I didn't pay that much for mine, there is also an non-carbon cheaper version.

Epic and frustrating morning for you then and no mobile coverage.. that must have sucked! At least you had a fair bit of work done before it all kicked off :) You would have to be fairly organised to have all your gear checked and re checked before a 5.30 start and even if you did something else more bizarre may have happened. I was knocked off my bike last week by scumbags and luckily landed in a ditch. No amount of checking of gear would have prepared anyone for that!

Got the session finished anyways, just not ideal to have a break in the middle.
Going to buy a big old fashioned pump today and stick that on the frame.

Hope you are alright from the spill.
