    HI,

Just wondering if anyone could recommend any particular bridge camera? I am looking to buy one for my husband and I am quite clueless about it all. It would primarily be for general photography and as far as I can see (and have been told) for his needs a DSLR would be OTT. Cost (within reason!) is not really an issue.
    All suggestions greatly appriciated!

    http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Canon_PowerShot_G10/

Is a good Camera with many features and highly recommended by many sites.
If I wanted a small back up to my DSLR it would be this Camera.
It's €500 in Irish shops but obviously I assume cheaper online.

Fuji make some of the best bridge cameras. But you can't really go wrong no matter what brand you buy (Canon, Olympus, Kodak, Panasonic/Lumix etc).

The Canon G10 is a very good camera and is very slim should fit into yor pocket. My fav though would be the...
Fuji S100fs costs around €300/400 (shop around, better online) has 11MP, 14 optical zoom and like the Canon shoots in both raw and jpeg format. Also like the Canon its has a "hot-shoe" so you can attach an external flash. Either of these cameras would be a good buy and allow your hubby grow in his photography and would be the next best thing to a slr but without having to change fiddly lens'.

The only draw back with these two cameras is that they both use their own propriety batteries and not AA so if you run out they can't be replaced in a chemists etc. But if that isn't a big concern then... choose one :)

Have a look here or here if you think he'd like one with bigger zoom.

You could also look at the Panasonic DMC G1 which is one of a new type of cameras which should have better image quality than bridge models, without the size and weight of a DSLR.

Er, that is a bit expensive for what you get, particularly since you could get this Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ28 bridge camera for €279 http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=375459

This would be a good candidate for the OP to consider IMO.

To C guy, you pay what you get for....
I gave the advice I would give myself, ie I would buy the G10 as a back up to my DSLR if I needed a bridge.
