what are for example , Romanian immigrants entitled to when they come to Ireland in terms of unemployment benefits, childrens allowance schemes and rent allowance schemes?

I only ask because somebody told me recently that it is much more than Irish citizens, is this true?
HOW have these people contributed to our society in general?
has the CSO carried out any surveys on this element of our society that appear to be here to stay?

I think you need to make the distinction between Romanian citizens and Romanian citizens who happen to be of Roma extraction (the politist way i can put it).

I'm guessing it's the latter group you are refering to.

Romania is in the EU so they enjoy the same travel/welfare rights as any other EU citizen has in this country.

I dont know the exact requirements but there is a residency or habitual residence requirement that EU citizens must meet before they can claim welfare. It's not like anybody from the EU can just hop on a plane to here and automatically claim benefits.

You can be pretty sure that any allegation that immigrants are entitled to "much more than Irish citizens" is false.

As McCrack says everybody who seeks a social welfare benefit has to meet a habitual residence condition. Details are here.

Romanians are not entitled to the same welfare or employments rights as other EU citizens.
To work here they must have a work permit. Everybody claiming welfare payments must satisfy a habitual residency requirement-2 years. No distinction is made between Irish and non-Irish citizens in terms of the amounts payed. Any suggestion to the contrary is, at best, ill-informed.
