Anyone else looking forward to this one being released on the PS Store ? I got the last Outrun game on the PS2 and it was great fun. So if this is anything like that with the new shiney Hi-Def graphics, then I'll be sold.

    Excellent!

Heard it was going up on XBox Live, didn't realise PS Store was getting too. Any idea when it'll be available?

    Some time this month apparently.

    Nice one

    I'll look forward to that

I have it for the xbox and it still gets a play every now and again so I'll hold off. However I think everyone should buy it. It's the best arcade racer since f-zero GX and an absolute joy to play.

the graphics look identical to coast to coast.

don't know how interested I'd be in getting this game purely for online play. I mean I like it, I'll usually play it every now and again to blow off some steam and laugh at how "Sega" the game is and looks. But its too arcadey for me. Sega Rally Revo would be as arcadey as I'd be willing to play online.

I still play it on my PSP, it's one beautiful game, and I'll be downloading it for certain.
Just not sure which format, PSN or XBLA, have to wait and see if there is any advantage in one over the other.

So did I, about a hundred years ago.

I only had the cassette version and each section took about 20 minutes to load!

Yeah, I do recall having Outrun on the C64, one of the last games I got for that wonderful computer before I dived in to 16bit land. It was an absolutely terrible conversion and yeah, it had to load each stage when you got to each checkpoint. Totally ruined the flow of the game.

It was definitely one of my favourite arcade games at the time, 1986 I believe. I fire up MAME every now and then and have a bash of it. I never did clock it in the arcades but can do so in MAME. I'd love to play it in the arcades again. Definite nostalgia.

Anybody remember the music on the C64; there was a soundtrack on the game, but they also used give you a standard music cassette to play in your stereo, expecting you to mute the television sound, thus you got 'arcade music'.

God, we were a simple folk, but we were 'appy!

Oh yeah, I do remember getting the same tape free with C+VG one time with the 3 arcade tunes. Man, good days :p

    Yes remember it well.

I got up at 5 o'clock on christmas morning (I think it was 1987) to play Outrun on my Sinclair Spectrum with it's rubber keys and listened to the tape on my walkman.

Later, when I had upgraded to the C64 and Turbo outrun came out I remember thinking that this was as good as graphics were ever going to get. They'll never be able to beat this.

I've read on a couple of sites that this may very well have been released yesterday/today on the European PS Store. If someone has access to a PS3, could they log on and check the store to see if it has indeed been released ? I'm in work right now so can't check.

    Cheers,

It's there alright. Spotted it last night but I am waiting to hear what others think of it before purchasing

Is it online only, as don't have many mates on PSN.

No, you can play offline also. Have it on the original XBox which I can play on the 360 so I probably won't bother with this one. Great game though.

Messed with the 360 one earlier in the week and was a little disappointed to see some slowdown and frame-rate hiccups on some stages (especially in heart-attack mode)..
Not a deal breaker by any means as it still plays well albeit being a sort of cut-down version of the originals with regard to extra features etc.
Good for a quick blast every now and then, and even the relatively weak models and some previous-gen texturing don't intrude too badly..
Haven't tried out the online so I can't comment on it.

I would suspect that both versions will be relatively close to one another.

Good stuff. I plan to buy it this weekend and give it a bash and will let you know how it fairs. How much is it anyways ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

    €9.99 IIRC

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,951 ✭✭✭fdevine

    MossyMonk is correct; it's €9.99.

Had a quick shot last night and thought it was a good port of the arcade game.

I have only played it, console-wise, on the GBA SP so the original arcade version is the only decent comparison I have.

Well worth the money IMHO, unless you're not a fan of arcade ports.
