Fixie Sizing

Was looking to buy a fixie, not sure if I'm going to buy a factory one because I'd really like to build one but I think it will be a while until I'm capable of building a bike.

    Anyway, was looking at this...
    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/Cycle/7/Charge_Plug_2009/5360039090/

And it's sizing is different, for a road bike I'd be looking at a 56-58cm frame, does this differ on fixies? Howcome? Surely you would need the same standover height? What am I missing here?

I'm getting very excited about owning a fixie now, be a nice A to B bike! :D

Maybe there's something fishy with the charge frame dimensions or how they measure their sizes so

How is the sizing different? FYI: the plug is a straight top tube as opposed to a compact (sloping) geometry bike.

Small being 57cm seat tube length where as I would consider that large for a road bike

Ah right. I would stick with the number. I'm a 58 in all my bikes so I'd get a 58 if I was getting the Plug.

    Edit: no 58, I'll have a 59 please :)

One left, stay away! All of you!

I'll consider getting it soon enough so, might have a look for some similar looking fixies

    Don't bother, they're SO over.

Geometry varies greatly on all kinds of bikes. If you're buying something off the internet you should check all the frame dimensions and make sure you're getting what you want. Don't go by something as vague as "Medium" or "Large".

@ Eoin, don't know if this will help: I have a Charge Plug Racer, I presume the frame sizing would be the same for the Charge Plug. I am only 5'8" and after a lot of deliberation ended up going for a small frame which is a perfect fit. The Specialized Road bike with compact frame I have is 54.

If you want to try out mine for sizing just let me know. (Dublin based)

Ok the thing that you may have been told about is that the standover height difference, if your current road bikes standover height is suitable for you, or at the closer to you end of still fitting I would go down a size in a track frame.
Track frames have(generally) higher bb's so that means measuring from bb to top of the seat tube will be higher off of the ground compared to a road frame.
Eg: I have a 60cm road frame and a 58cm track frame and the standover height is good on both for me.

Don't worry, I only plan on using it in the dead of night when no one is around, I'm keeping an eye out for the next bandwagon though, hopefully I'll get on it a bit earlier.

Yeah, I wasn't going to buy just a 'medium' or 'large' so was asking was there actually a difference in sizing, when ordering off the world wide interweb you don't get a chance to hop on and have a go first, ya know yourself.

Cheers, I'm fairly certain now that the 59cm frame is the size for me

Cheers! I don't think it's actually a track frame because it's a "street" bike but it was a little fact like that that I was worried about

    Thanks all!
