everywhere i look i see green boxes on black poles. they have an 'an post' look about them but have no openings and only a small flat key hole. they also have hooks underneath them. i've never seen anyone at one and have no idea what they're for but they're everywhere. about 1.5m high

don't suppose you have any pictures of these little green boxes?

maybe leprechauns hide their gold in them?

These green boxes are used by An Post to deliver large quantities of post to a certain area by a van. The on-foot or on-bicycle postman then goes to the box and removes a managable amount of post which he then delivers and repeats this process until the holding box is empty.

That is normally why you find them near the entrance to large estates or developments.

so the reason i've never seen anyone at one is 'cos i'm a lazy bastid who is never up at that time of day?

    can't argue with that

They're 'Studio Apartments'... from before the recession.

100k a box. Usually rented out to foreigners. Which is why they're usually so clean

I think the hooks may be for the postperson to hang his/her bag on whilst he/she fills it from the green box.
