Tethering... I'd prefer not to jailbreak my phone but I'll do it if I have to. Seems to be in the mix in the OS now, but do we think O2 will allow it?

Turn by turn GPS... apparently it's now allowed, so I wonder will TomTom make one?

Still no mention of Wi-Fi or Bluetooth syncing though!

Overall, I'm pretty impressed with the new features. There is certainly more scope for developers to create some pretty nice apps. Turn-by-turn is definitely a bonus. You can be sure the major players have something developed already.

But what I'm wondering is, do you think any of the updated software hints at new iPhone hardware for the coming Summer?

yeah definitely iphone based on improved picture quality and video recording is on the way. You can now open your youtube account with the 3.0 software so knowing apple direct upload of videos to youtube from the phone.

Very nice update. I'd be very tempted. But there's still a few things missing:

    Flash support
    J2ME support
A reasonable contract price (I realise this is O2's decision, but Apple made the decision not to allow competition in the Irish market)
    VOIP over 3G data
    Bluetooth file exchange support

We're getting nearer though. Maybe next year we'll have the iPhone we should have had 2 years ago.
