The general rule of thumb with volunteering is the more they expect you to pay, the less benefit they believe you will bring to the poor of that area. Therefore, you don't charge a teacher for going somewhere for 6 months, in fact the organization might even pay them. And you'd charge a schoolkid €3000 for working for a week.

The term 'two week specials' answered this one for me. I've been looking after volunteers in India for 4 years now. If anyone dared come near us for two weeks I'd charge the hell out of them too. They sap our energy between settling in/culture shock/sickness when adapting to the food/constant photo taking then big hulubaloo when they leave!

Sorry to sound so negative, it's really aimed at the organization not you. There is some great work you can do. Going solo is usually the best way to go about it. I mean, charging a doctor €2,300 to work for a month in China. Are they serious? (Although I doubt one has to be a qualified doctor to take up the position).

Also, the two week special looks like an add on, so seems you'll have to do 6 weeks to get the other 2 but I'm not sure.
If you do decide to do this, at least whoever you work will get a donation (after Projects Abroad take their hefty cut).
But for the money you'll be paying you could pay for your own flights, spending money and make a donation if you went solo.
