    Irish Times have it here:
British actress Natasha Richardson is in a critical condition after a skiing accident in Canada, according to media reports today.

People.com reported that the Tony award-winning actress and wife of actor Liam Neeson suffered a head injury yesterday, and is in a Montreal hospital.

Richardson, 45, is the daughter of Vanessa Redgrave.

She and Neeson, who married in 1994 after they both appeared in the film Nell, have two sons.

Richardson won a Tony award for best actress in a musical in 1998 for her role in Cabaret.

Natasha Richardson has died. Tragic. RIP.

Give me one RELIABLE source to back that up.

I have no reliable sources apart from my own, but I happen to know it is true.

Sorry mods, there seems to be no public reporting of this yet; feel free to delete my post until this has been confirmed.

The only 'source' currently reporting her dead is perez hilton, so not exactly reliable.
TMZ.com have her flown by private jet from Canada, possibly to NY.

Very frightening how quickly someone can deteriorate following an accident after which she was reportedly walking and talking OK.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 30,661 Mod ✭✭✭✭Faith

Perez Hilton has updated his site to report that she is not dead, and reports that she was were incorrect.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,588 ✭✭✭JP Liz

The New York Post and Time Out New York are reporting that Richardson has been left brain dead from the accident, both citing sources close to the family. However, entertainment website TMZ.com says Richardson is suffering brain swelling and is not brain dead.

Jade Goody must be throwing a tantrum that her limelight is about to be stolen. :D

What a ridiculous comment. Natasha Richardson is a respected actress, hardly in the same league as a publicity whore like Goody.

Any chance of removing nervous twitch's post? It's appallingly insenstive and gossipy.

No, because as you can see from JP Liz's post:

If it was an isolated comment, it would perhaps be removed. However, Time Out New York were originally reporting that she had died, so let's assume that was nervous twitch's incorrect source. There's no good reason to delete it, given that the majority of posts on this forum are gossipy and often insensitive.

Hardly reputable sources. They are both scandal sheets.

Maybe a mod with some moral fibre should be found for this forum.

Reps for her will be releasing an official statement tomorrow. Until then, everyone is just speculating.

Now please stop taking the thread off topic, thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 189 ✭✭europhile

Maybe you should instruct other posters to stop speculating. I'm sure Liam Neeson has family readers who are reading this. Maybe you should think of other people's feelings.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 30,661 Mod ✭✭✭✭Faith

And I'm sure Jade Goody has friends reading the thread about her. Now, this is my last warning. If you post off-topic in this thread again, you'll get a two-week ban.

(CNN) -- Actress Natasha Richardson was hospitalized after she fell on a ski slope at a Quebec resort, a resort spokeswoman said in a statement Tuesday.

Here is one from CNN although there have been a variety of reports from Natasha being 'brain dead to dead' along the way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,153 ✭✭✭Rented Mule

Sources close to Tony-award winning actress Natasha Richardson tell FOXNews.com that the 45-year-old actress is brain dead, and being transported back to New York City before she is to be taken off life support.

The 'sources' here are quite vague as it appears that TMZ/Perez Hilton/NY Post have run with a different view of the situation.

Hopefully this will all be sorted out later in the day.

I think you may want to have a look above at many of the other sources that are now reporting on this story.

someone can be fine and walking about after a fall and then be brain dead a short time later. It happened to my friend almost 4 years ago, he took a fall off a small wall, was fine but half an hour later collapsed- he'd hit the back of his head and his brain had started bleeding- 2 days later they switched off his life support after doing tests for 2 days.

My heart goes out to her family, tragic accident to happen.

Tony-award winning actress Natasha Richardson died Wednesday at the age of 45 in a New York City hospital.

    She has indeed passed away.

    Indeed. May she R.I.P.

Maybe it's time protective headgear became mandatory on the ski-slopes considering the speeds even a beginner can reach.

To be honest, I find the people with helmets make things more dangerous. They become more reckless beause they feel protected and this puts other people in danger. I've had some hairy run ins on ski slopes and seen some nasty accidents. There's a lot of out of control people on ski slopes and I don't think that will change. I guess you just need to remember that any sports like that can be dangerous and their is risk involved. I guess this is just a reminder that something can always go wrong. It's very sad for her family, I especially feel for the kids.

I was thinking about that scene too, it was the first thing that popped into my haed when i heard the news.

This is such a terrible thing to happen, it has left me feeling very sad, one day your a respected actress, then a few days later your gone.

My heart goes out to her husband and kids.

    Off TMZ:

Liam Neeson graciously waved to well-wishers as he went home tonight, after his wife Natasha Richardson died.

I'm glad to see the Paparazzi haven't changed their vulture type attitude.redface1.gif

Liam Neeson is a class act, a man proud of his roots. I'm so sorry for his, his family and Natasha's family loss.

As someone who has never skied, I'm not in a position to argue, except to say that with protective headgear on, she may not have died.

Looking at the pictures on the news last night, it didn't seem like there were many areas of danger on the slope. It wasn't too steep, was wide open and not too many obstacles for someone to hit. Strange...but moot!

They never look steep from the bottom - I've taken pics of me at the bottom of slopes I struggled to get down and been so chuffed with myself and in the photos they look like gentle hills!

It is very strange to have such a serious injury on a beginner slope though. Probably just terribly terribly bad luck.

What must make everybody feel worse is that, had she followed advice at the time, she could have survived. After a bang on the head and no immediate side-effects it's easy to think that everything's ok and that people are making a fuss about nothing. :(

The look of utter devastation on poor Liam Neeson's face depicted bereavement so perfectly. And what an absolute star he is, the way he still acknowledged fans.

Natasha was an A grade actress who had D grade publicity, and I'm sure that's just how she wanted it - no frills, just a genuinely decent and down to earth woman.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,588 ✭✭✭JP Liz

People.com is reporting that Natasha Richardson's family has donated the actress's organs to save other patients' lives. Citing a "family friend" it did not name, the celebrity Web site said Richardson's family had requested her organs be donated after she was taken off life support last week. The report did not say whether any patient had received them. Alan Nierob, publicist for Richardson's husband Liam Neeson, said he had no information on the matter. Richardson died March 18 of a head injury that caused bleeding on the brain after a fall during a beginners' ski lesson in Montreal two days before. She was buried at a private ceremony in upstate New York over the weekend.

    good on them

I don't think that he was auditioning for a part in a movie.

I never said he was and it wasn't what I meant to suggest.

I just meant that he looked so devastated that you could feel his pain and that of others in the same position.
