A group from my university is planning on going on pilgrimage (well part of the way) to Santiago del Compostellia. I am very tempted to join them what do the members here think of such a task?

A Catholic friend of mine is doing the same walk in June or July and asked me to come along with him. They call the walk the 'Camino' and it follows in the footsteps of St. James the apostle and missionary to Spain. To be honest it is something I would like to do even though I'm not a Catholic, but it is a bit of a trek so I think I'll pass this time, maybe next year :D

My mother did the Camino walk over two trips a couple of years ago - it doesn't have to be done in one go. I have to say I'd love to do it but I'd consider it a solitary thing not a group thing. I would do it for the solitude/self-discovery reason rather than for any religious significance. I guess this doesn't help your decision - but it is an athiest's point of view.
