Very slick Dav, you should do great business. That's a growing market.

    All the best.

    Looks good Dav but...
Twice in that short video you used the word "you're" when meaning "your".
"you're" is the abbreviation of "you are".
Seeing as this is a video promoting the professional standard of your business, I think this is a bad error. Even if you personally typed this out the director or editor should have spotted and corrected it. You should definitely get this fixed.
BTW, how much would you charge me to sing Celine Dion's "my heart will go on":D

    Just watched this now...
Honest opinion: I don't think this is a good advert.
After your initial splash-screen, you've got 20 seconds of largely irrellevant footage with no voiceover, no text explaining the service, nothing that's selling your product or skills, or giving the potential client an idea of what's involved in what you can do for them.

The indoor footage throughout doesn't look well lit, and makes everything seem a bit claustrophobic. Lots of "in your face" shots, I guess this is to hide the small size of the premises?
I think you'd have been far better served with a mix of Flash type animated presentation mixed with footage, maybe even a "talking head" piece. You've got 1:38 to work with, you can say a whole lot more than is in that trailer about your service.

You've also obviously spent money on the branding (I know logos don't come cheap) but there's no sense of that branding and company identity being brought into the look and feel of the video. If you're not going to push your branding into your promotional material to try and establish a sense of identity, it's wasting the money you've spent on it.

You've also got 8 seconds in there advertising the director/production company who made they ad. WTF? I presume this was a commercial piece of work you paid them for, so this really shouldn't be there. It looks unprofessional having a director credited on an advert imo.

I'm delighted to see you getting stuff done Dav, and getting out there with your service, which imo is INCREDIBLY sellable, but I think you've been let down with this.

Hey Dav… I had a quick look there now. Given your target market, I think it hits the spot. It looks to me like the section of an episode of “X Factor” program where they roll the VT footage of the artists recording their “soon to be” hit single. I’m assuming that’s what you were aiming for, so job done!

I’d also agree with some of what Fitz said – it strikes me that the ad could be edited down to 60sec (or even 30 sec) and still get the message across. It’s 23 secs into the ad before the graphics start to explain the service on offer. And unless you got a discount from the ad producer for his own ad at the end, I’d be getting that edited out.

I suppose a big part of the success of the ad will be where/how you get it broadcast.

Very best of luck with the business

Thanks lads for the response you both have made for good points that certainly have been overlooked. The fact is that the video was shot for free by mate who is just after starting free lance. I am throwing him a few bob next week as a thankyou. I am starting this business on a shoe string as you can understand so there is a tiny budget as I have pumped the rest into the studio. My mates have setup my seo, website and video of course. This video is a small taster and with limited time and funds I can only expect so much from people. I have asked my facebook mates for feedback and they think it's great so I am still very happy with it as a first attempt. The size of the premises does not matter, it has a couch and toilet and is clean and funky so we are hiding nothing. Obviously if I was Louis Walsh I would of bought a huge premises. My SEO is going to put my branding on the top corner of the video in due time great idea Fitz. For now we are after setting up a mailing list and business brochure and we put the vid on the site. I agree with mostly everything you both have said lads I really do it's just the best one can do with limited resources. I haven't spent anything on branding not one penny I just know good people who will do a good job for a few bob here and there. I think that in due time I if I actualy make some money from this I will get things done bigger and better and after all it's all a learning experience. Thanks for the feedback though I really appreciate honesty when it's done right, regards, Dav. :)

    Fair play Dav.
Like I said, it's great to see someone making the push to get stuff done, and it's great to be able to give you honest feedback that you've taken in the manner it was meant.
I know only too well how often you get the "wow, that's great!" response from people, which doesn't really help constructively. The business brochure is a great idea.
If you can stretch to it, maybe get a batch of flyers done up and leave them in places that you reckon your target audience frequent...I suppose 15-25 year old girls are a prime demographic for this kind of thing. Might even be worth getting some advertising on Boards itself?

Have you thought of running some kind of competition with a prize of a song recording? If you get people to sign up to the mailing list trying to win that, you've got more contact details for interested potential clients for the sake of one freebie.
You could get on to Dav, the new boards.ie community manager and try to really get the boards community involved....the winner will have their song published up here etc...
Just ideas, but I think boards is sometimes overlooked as a marketing opportunity.

Thanks Fitz your feedback was certainly admirable. Yeah I am going to look at running a radio competition and look at google ads or perhaps even boards advertising, your full of good ideas. I am pushing really hard to get all my web pages up and running so I can hit the ground running in April. My PR company hand out flyers in colleges which is a good thing and I am going to be the studio that people record in for the X factor road show which also sounds promising. Have to get onto Clare at Spin next and see if she can pull a few strings for that competition. I have to start the leg work and actualy get my product out there in April via brouchers. Long road so it is and most if it costs money one way or another.

It's exactly the same as trying to push a record tbh. I'm gonna be taking similar approaches with my album. It's heartening to see someone else putting the hard yards in on their project too. The x-factor link is a big deal...if you can get permission to use their name/logo in your promotions you could see things really taking off in a big way...it's the kind of association that makes people sit up and take note. Best of luck with it Dav.

All the steps I have taken so far:

    Learning to record!
    Buying gear
    Getting a central location
    Registering business name
Setting up Web/Seo/Pr building up affiliates etc..
Designing brochures and branding flyers etc...
Marketing (thats the step I am about to take!) radio etc..

I want to record my own album in a year or two aswell..I really need a new acoustic and Brewer will vouch for that! I would get a producer to produce it I wouldn't diy it. Don't want to have to focus on everything. Best of luck with the album Fitz let me know when your playing it would be nice to come along.
