Just wondering if there is any advantage in buying a 705 over a 305 - I have never got lost cycling, so was wondering is the extra cost worth it?

    hope that link works.
The only major difference is the mapping and ability to hook a power meter up to the 705.

The 705 is great if you want to go places you have not been before, (e.g. touring) I have used it on routes around Ireland as well as Spain and France. If you are only going on routes you are familiar with the 305 does just as well. I have a 705 but most of the time around WIcklow have no need of the mapping.

Is the 305 supported by garmin connect?

    705.
it's more expensive than the 305, and has many more features you'll probably never use, so represents a much lesser bang for the buck, therefore it's a necessity.

Longer battery life too. Very useful for those evening where you leave the screen light on.

I was initially skeptical about the mapping ability of the 705, but am increasing starting to use it. Even when I know the route, having "6.7km to next turn" is quite motivating.

Nothing I couldn't do without though, tbh.

    +1

tbh I've never used a 305, went straight for a 705. Can't think of anything else they could pack into the damn thing. Ambient temps maybe?

There is a temp sensor in it to help correct the altitude readings, they just don't expose the readings outside of the debug mode from what I've read.
