utorrent blocking browser internet access

Ever since a few days ago I've noticed that if utorrent (or any torrent app for that matter) is launched it immediately cuts off browser access to the internet (in both Firefox and IE).
The torrent app continues downloading fine.
All I get in the status bar in Firefox is: "Waiting for google.ie". I can't even log into the router.
If the torrent app is closed things stay the same. A restart is required to restore access.

The thing is that I can ping and tracert any site with no problems.
I've tried resetting both winsock and the TCP/IP stack, disabling the firewall and AV, and a system restore but to no avail.

It's not a router problem either as all the other PC's are working fine.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    No I'm with UPC.
It's just on one computer that this is happening.
I was doing some updating of drivers the day that it happened but they've all been reverted with the system restore.
I also updated the BIOS that day but that's hardly causing it.

I have a similiar enough problem. Using Flashget with Rapidshare I have the same browser symptoms. My problems stop as soon as I close Flashget though.

    Are you on XP?

    Using Vista here.
It's a fairly fresh install too so I wouldn't mind too much if I had to do a full OS reinstall.
A quick fix would be nice though!

    Sorted.
Uninstalling NOD32 seems to have fixed it.
But now I've no antivirus. Happy days.

Most likelly are your utorrent settings, My computer and BB go donkey slow when torrent's up.. Reason why? found after reading utorrent help. Change the settings for your bandswith, don't set it up for the full 3,10 or 20 Mb, use half, plus check the settings in your own router in how to configure ports

It was probably that nod32 scans all of your utorrent traffic.

I had the same problem with the eset security suite. read this and then reinstall nod32. it is the best after all :D
