I rarely put a bet on but about 10 years ago I had a mad accumulator put on the Saturday soccer. There was about 13 teams and some offered some good odds. Arrived home to realise 2 things...

    1) 12 of the 13 results were correct!!!
    2) I backed Celtic as the 13th result but didn't realise they were playing until Sunday. They had incredibly short odds to win against some no hopers.

The pundits were expecting Celting to win 4-0/5-0 etc so with that reassuracne, I went on the tear with my friends knowing that, barring a disaster of rediculous proportions, I would be collecting 1200 pounds the following day!!! Being a student on work experience from UL, this was about 6 weeks wages!!!

    Celtic drew 1-1

Its sods law that there is always 1 team who will screw up, Its almost always some team with small odds also.

Wolves were super a few seasons ago for fooking up my bets. Have steered clear of them since.

On a positive note two great teams for the accumulators was Gretna about 3 years ago and Derby about 2 years ago.

And you didn't think to back the draw or a Celtic loss? Amazing.

A simple handicap bet would have acted as a lay. i.e. back the other team +1

A 1-0 result for the team he backed would have resulted in a handicap draw in that case, resulting in both bets losing.

Think you've mixed that one up.. A bet of the other team +1 against Celtic would have resulted in a winner one way or the other. i.e Celtic win (big accum up) or Draw or other team (+1 bet up)...

have had too many to remember but a couple of weeks ago i had a fifty euro acc a couple of weeks ago unfortunatly all playing at the same time so couldnt lay any of them back. picked 5 teams all winning with time up then sunderland who i was waiting on conceeded an injury time equaliser to robbie keane:mad: to rob me off 5682 euros to be exact.worse thing as a liverpool suporter i seen the irony in this

Start of the premier league season last year. I had 3.50euro in change and decided to put 3 euro on a 20/1 shot(3 teams to win) and the other 50 cent on a roughly 600/1 shot(9 teams to win) just for the laugh.

On the saturday, I won my first bet and the second was still going strong. On the Sunday, I think it was Arsenal that won and all that was left was Man Utd to beat Reading.

I wasn't able to watch the match because I was at a Dundalk match. Friend rings me saying " your bet is definitely coming in Man Utd are all over them". Caught the last ten min still 0-0 and it stayed that way. Man Utd had about 8million shots but couldnt score. Absolutely disgusted.

Always try to pick 3 or less teams when betting or you have no chance.

Well if you read the post properly "sham", you'd see that 1) I didn't bet much back then therefore I didn't even know what laying bets was and 2) I was a student...where was I going to conjour up 200 pounds from?

Maybe if I knew of boards back then, I could have consulted your almighty wisdom.

i had a great long term accum wuda won about 3k but dundalk threw away the league when i put the bet down they were 4/11 to win the 1st div.

can't claim credit for this one, and thank god the guy never really understood, but brought an iranian buddy into bookies and he bet £1 on the sections list where he selected 14 teams. the first thirteen all won and Hull City drew with Plymouth 0-0. they were in the bottom section so it was one of the really dodgy games. the guaranteed payout was over 12 grand, but it didn't seem to dawn on him how close he was. i remained calm in his presence, but felt sick later, on his behalf !!

always a good way to learn a lesson i guess when you get a good burn you don't ever forget
