want to dye my hair blonde myself

    Hi
I have light brown, auberny hair which is just below my shoulders. I have only ever dyed it a dark shade of brown before (l'oreal one which i bought) and it turned out fine. However I would love to go a blonde shade but i know that this would be quite tricky to get right. I dont want to end up with yellow hair!
is there any way of knowing for sure what shade to buy in the l'oreal range or any other range for that matter? or would i really have to go to hairdresser. It's just I'm broke and would prefer to do it myself.
I want to go a natural looking blonde colour. Not white or peroxide. Just very subtle blonde. Any suggestions? I'd just like to try it out.
    Thanks a million
    Ladybirdlady

youll be sorry when you've head of orange or patch you missed
the cost of fixing hair can be a lot more than changing colour

    Seriously don't....
You will most likely end up going to a hair dressers anyway to fix the mess you have made!
Can you tell I have been there?! Even went through walking to the shops to buy another box of hair dye thinking that it might help!
    It didn't!
If money is really tight go to one of those student hair dresser places.
    Good luck!
    X.

if you already have a colour on your hair you cant apply another colour (blonde) on top of that. Colour will not lift colour. You can go darker but never lighter. Your'll end up with your roots maybe going a blonde colour but the rest of your hair, who knows what it could turn out like.

IF you have no colour on your hair and you really want to go blonde and you cant afford to go to a salon if you get a friend to help you, your'll have a much better chance of it not going wrong. Instead of going blonde all over you could start with highlights.

Generally i go by the rule if your going darker, box colours are fine loads of people do it themselves at home and not many problems occure. If your going lighter it is always best to get it done by a professional.

As someone mentioned you can get great deals at the moment, and the hairdressing schools are always looking for people, it's much cheaper than the salons, and they are all supervised while they are doing your hair.

I agree with everyone go to a hairdressers, or better yet training class where it will be cheaper.

I made the mistake of trying to go lighter myself a few weeks ago, I had darkish brown hair, ended up ginger!!
I went to the hairdressers to repair my homemade damage :/ and could only get highlights [which I have to keep getting to get my hair as light as I want it] and they cost me a fortune, I should have just gone to a trainee in the first place :(

Im still pretty ginger its gonna take a few goes to get it blonder. Not worth it believe me its only making my hair worse now.
