Yo, I just wanted to ask all you roadies out there ... I am 2nd Cat road racer, and did n't race last year, and prob did n't do too much the year before, but
seriously has the standard of racing really gone up this year ?

I've had serious blow-ups yesterday and last week, the speed was savage !
Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same ????

I don't think the standard is up this year, the S2s seem to be weaker than last year if anything (possibly a result of the winter we've had).

I presume you're talking about the Mick Lally and Traders cup races- in both of those the S1s caught the S2 bunch early on which will always result in the 'B's getting their holes opened. I reckon if you raced the same courses in a B bunch you'd find it very handy by comparison.

OTOH- the racing is always worse than you remembered it if you come back after a break- all you can do is suck it up and wait for the form to come back.

    Hey Iseran

What cat do you ride ?
I would n't have any problem sitting in a B bunch and riding a whole race, problem is there has n't a separate B race yet with New bridge being cancelled !
For some like myself it takes a few races to get "race fit" and be able to get around, and for 80% of races the S2 ride with the S1 ones anyways ...

I think the S2's got about 30's ahead of the S1's in the Mick Lally which was a bit of a joke !!

Anyway will have to wait for a couple of weeks to try and get around again !!

biker joe, as a third cat rider (and am still a third cat rider), i took a 2 month break last year and when i came back i found the pace savage, and had been dropped in my first race back.

so i think it is understandable to experience this after a long break like yours.

i rode yesterdays race in Dundalk, signed on as a B to get race fit for Gorey. and it was easily the most tortuous 2 and a half hours of my life. thought about quitting 3 laps in, but gritted my teeth for the remaining 8 to finish safely in the A bunch.
