I'll be heading to Dublin for Easter weekend and probably need a hotel for 2 nights though possibly only one night, so wondering if there is any brilliant websites that will get me a really good deal? Or would I be better off ringing a hotel and haggling what with the state of the economy an all that!?

I'm in the UK btw if that makes any differnence!

    Thanks! :)

As somebody who stays in far too many hotels in this country I can tell you that call during office hours, ask for the reservations manager and haggle haggle haggle. They want your business.

Keep telling them that you are offering them the business so they do not have to pay LTA/Commission to the booking agent and it will be less work. Have quotes(made up) in your head from the competition to the hotel you are calling and let them haggle each other.

Irish hotels are now trying to get heavily back into the "holiday at home" scheme of things and are doing great deals directly instead of relying on US & European booking agents to hand them business.

Whats your budget? Travelodge right through to Four Seasons are in Dublin so you have a lot of choice. Central or suburbia?

    Car or no car?

    Thanks for that Berty!

No car and it's just for the 1 night I think, preferably city centre location.

What's The Burlington like these days? Not exactly city centre but a standard double, room only is €80. (www.lastminute.ie) Not that that's our budget but I really don't want to pay a lot of money for what is basically just going to be a bed for the night!

The Burlington is sort of still the Burlington but is now called D4 Hotels Group. I stayed in the Ballsbridge Court(the old 5*) around the back.

The two at the front, the Ballsbridge Inn(Burlington) and the Ballsbridge Towers(AKA The Towers) are the two with the better bar, better cafe and better restaurant. They have a taxi rank outside with a bus stop across the road. Good location.

I have a voucher to stay in the Ballsbridge Court and am glad to be returning later this year.

Fairly good hotels that had to re-open due to the property slump. Poor guy bought the land for €380m and could not get finance to develop it and now cannot sell it so had to re-open the hotels.

€80 per night is a good rate for the Easter weekend in fairness. Room only I presume. Breakfast was nothing much to write home about anyway but pricey at €14.50 for a hote breakfast each.

    Call them up on 003353 1 6684468 or e-mail rooms@d4hotels.ie

Not true. You are thinking of the wrong hotels. The D4 group (now owned by Seán Dunne) are the three former hotels in the centre of Ballsbridge - namely Jury's Tower, Jury's Ballsbridge and the Berkeley Court.

The Burlington Hotel is on Leeson Street, just over Leeson Street Bridge and though no longer part of the Jurys Doyle Group retains the name of the Burlington and its website is www.burlingtonhotel.ie.

Huh, God Damn It. My apologies but this is also a fine hotel and still a fine price for €80 and still a good location if not better.

You will actually walk to St Stephens Green from this hotel easily.

The Ballsbridge Inn, D4 Hotels is quite good, ok it is not a 5 star hotel but it served me and would serve most people excellently. I stayed there on March 1st despite having travelled up from Kerry it was very easy to get to, with Heuston>Luas>Connolly>Dart to Landsdowne Rd. making getting to it very easy as it is only a 5 minute walk from Landsdowne Road Dart station.

It looks rather eightyish on the outside but inside it is fine and the Reception and Bar area are newer. However the best thing was I stayed there for €37 for the night without Breakfast; I found this deal their website. There are Bus stops outside the hotel also and I got onto the Aircoach outside the Hotel and to the Airport for €8 as I had an early morning flight from Dublin Airport. They also they have free internet 7megs which is nice as so many hotels now charge an arm and leg for the net. (bring your own ethernet cable).

It was convenient, low price and the Aircoach to the Airport clinched the deal for me, €37 compared to the "airport" hotels all of whom wanted €100/night. Bear in mind that this was a special offer I got and D4Hotels usually have D4 type prices, I am going up to the RDS next weekend to the Work abroad expo and checked it and it is now €129/night so I will daytrip it with Mick Leary from Farranfore around €30 compared to €72 with Iarnrod Eireann.

Ring Bewleys directly and you will a room for €59. There is a no cancellation clause.

What is the point cancelling when the rate is "pre pay and save". You could cancel but they already have your money anyway.

The issue I have with Bewleys is the €18.50 breakfast and the €7.50 overnight parking.

Not as bad as the Herbert Park Hotel with a €24.50 hot breakfast though.
