02 Golf

My 02 diesel golf only seems to be firing on 3 cylinders at the most. It seemed to be happening in high gears at low revs first of all but as soon as I hit traffic it really became noticeable.
Any chance of a simple fix or info on what could possibly be wrong? I'm praying it's not my injector pump or an engine rebuild

If the car is running rough and down on power it could be an injector. they are HEUI injectors and are controled electronically so can go wrong. Bring it to a garage with a computer and they will be able to tell you which injector is giving the trouble. it might need replacing which is 250 per injector. but i seen once that the connections on the injector had come loose but the car was only running wrong sometimes. its worth a try taking off the rocker cover and checking the connections and mabe giving them a squeeze on the faulty injector otherwise you're talking replacment.

Just took it for a run there after the engine had cooled and it seemed to be running pretty ok again. I think that is pointing towards an electrical or electronics problem. Do these golfs have a fuel lift pump in the fuel tank. I've seen these give problems in heavier diesel engines but I'm not sure if cars show similar symptoms or not

It was indeed a connection to one of the injectors. Thanks for the heads up. Took it to my mechanic and he thought it was an injector giving trouble but I suggested he check the wiring before replacing it so got it sorted. Thanks
